I know, I know you only care about Steem. However what happens in other markets can have a direct impact on the price of steem. Let me explain.  Every stock market in the world has been getting wrecked since Oct. Even the oil market had the bottem fall out just this week. How does this affect the price of steem you wonder? Things like stocks are cheaper than they were just a few months ago. So when people who have money to invest are looking around at what to buy choosing steem over stocks is harder now. This = fewer buyers of steem = potential price drop = pain for current holders. Crypto in general will continue to struggle until stock markets preform better. On the economic side of things my feeling is that you are spot on, @dreamryder007. However, for me, there is an upside to the bear market as far as it concerns steem. Having sat through a number of such crypto bear markets it has revealed a natural selection that takes place as *shit coins* are dropped from exchanges. When the bulls return the market is generally leaner and stronger. Instead of *shit coins*, in steem's case, we are seeing those that are here for only the rewards dropping away. At the same time we are witnessing the wonderful idea of issuing free accounts, daily, to those with high RCs. This will act, in my opinion, to bring in good recruits which will be given the needed support (delegations) to get up and running on the platform. Some bemoan the drop off of user participation due to steem's fiat conversion, to which my reply is, "Good riddance to them". 😎
