While nobody is infallible, I find that the people who at least stop every one in a while to reflect on their own actions are a more reliable source of information than the ones who just assume they're always correct.

Navigation becomes a lot easier if you can look back and see that you've been travelling in a straight line.

Well, since it is my Steemit birthday I am entitled to a big blooming head! The famous  me.... seriously though, we do have a tendency to get our head stuck up our asses. Constant self-reflection.  There is really no other way.

@dwinblood  I'm agreed, I like to shared my friends story they were consuming daily alcohol+drugs!! They also these things harmful for them. But they never regret what they can do, now once day they got cancer,  he also knows now they have zero percent to recoverd from it. After cancer they consuming more and more alcohol+drugs and doctors  said him also if you trying to to consumed these things than we can help you. They addicted so much to alcohol,drugs them for very difficult to get off it!!

I think you  can guess at my stance on this.

Socrates spent his life asking 'why". The Bereans diligently studied to understand "why". These are the behaviors of wise men. Always attacking the powers that be, and not living a "self-examined" life is a recipe for folly and failure.

"You are way off base and don't know what you are talking about"  ;-) OK now that the tongue in cheek is said we can move to the meat of the issue, #1 You question yourself so I don't have a worry of you developing that mindlessness. #2 Those who think they are great in their own minds are in reality not. #3 Without people who question and challenge everything we would have a boring world.

I really liked this write up. Moore was a great example, but there are so many these days it is like shooting fish in a barrel when you start looking around. Allowing others to think for you is pervasive almost everywhere these days from the looks of it. 

Where I have noticed in the most is, of course, in the university environment. Not only do students frequently hero worship smart profs or leading authorities in the field and let their views dictate their conclusions (especially in liberal arts disciplines) but they almost unconsciously adopt their arguments as well and don't seem to realize they are just repeating someone else's reasoning when addressing an issue. 

It is remarkable how often I have engaged in or listened to conversations that were basically debates between academics that were not even present held via proxy advocates who formulated the arguments with "I think..." etc., when they were just repeating what other people thought. And yes, even I made that error early on until one of my profs really cracked down on me to cite my sources even in conversation. After a while, I started classifying people at the university into two basic camps - innovators and codifiers. There are many many more codifiers today than innovators.

This oddly reminds me of something that happened in very "spiritual" end of life... my wife and I follow this sort of thing (self-development, metaphysics, consciousness) quite a bit.

Some years back H.H. the Dalai Lama assembled some of the greatest minds from the fields of healing and meditation to address the issue of creating a better more peaceful world. Alas, it turned into a giant ego-pissing contest of "who's more evolved" and very little was actually accomplished. Seems everyone left their humility at home.
