I have studied philosophy too :) 
Blockchain is going to change everything.. It's not just banks being made obsolete. A decentralized Youtube will make Youtube obsolete. Same with Facebook. Same with Uber, Ebay, Twitter, and any other service that requires a middleman that profits. And all of these projects will be massively succesful. Why? Because of cost-effectiveness you get paid to participate, whereas the old styled companies cannot compete with that. Ad revenue will bypass middlemen and enter directly into your wallet. Airmiles, World of Warcraft gold and all those things will all be tokenized and interchangeable with other blockchains. Not just that, _everything_ is going to get digitized. There will be open market places where you can request a loan for a house and this is turned into shares which are tokenized and traded on marketplaces. Logistics will be so overtaken by blockchain that the entire process of fabrication, from the tiniest part in a factory all the way to assembly and eventual delivery to your doorstep. Perhaps brands will disappear entirely, and be replaced by individual designers who (through a variety of software and tools) navigate the blockchain to custom pick parts for custom ordered products. Who needs Nike, when some super talented kid who knows all the trends and gains popularity, can just custom order his design shoes at the same factories, and custom pick the fabrics, have them delivered to said factory, etc. 

Going even further.. cryptocurrencies aren't just currencies. They are _economies_ and some of them actually have _market forces_ with real power. Dash for example pays out 10% of the mining proceeds into a special pool from which developers will be hired and marketing will be paid. Already this fund is quite significant. In essence, Dash is turning into a sort of _real_ community with power and money. 
Going even further than that, there are projects which focus on the digitization of _identity_ and digital governance.

Not long from now, we will see major internet communities emerging which will have REAL world power. The power of the internet is real, and already groups like Anonymous are showing that internet communities _have_ power. With the advent of blockchain and cryptocurrencies it will also give them _money_. And that equals more power. With the digitization of _everything_ we're also going to see digital communities (aka nationstates, corporations, etc.) that exist solely in cyberspace, but which can exert real world power and influence.

In the distant future, I worry about certain things. Would it be possible, for example, to program a decentralized weapon of cyberdestruction that can be crowdfunded to go off? What if somebody harnesses the power of the Golem blockchain through an Ethereum DAPP to create a massive DDoS attack on a website of choice, given that you pay it enough? 

Blockchain and similar technologies (like Tangle) is mind boggling when you think about it. The internet as we know it will end up being just the starting phase of what will be the true internet of the future: the internet of everything.
