But this monumental achievement was a top secret, so it was classified until 1948, but once it hit the public airwaves, Yeager became a celebrity. </p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/OsbcVLj.jpg" width="700" height="393"/></p> <p><a href="http://edition.cnn.com/2012/10/15/us/nevada-yeager-anniversary-flight/index.html"><em>image source</em></a></p> <p>He received a prestigious aviation award, the Collier Trophy, which described his flight the greatest achievement in aviation since the Wright brothers first took flight in 1903. </p> <h2>Senghenydd Colliery Disaster-1913. </h2> <p>The Senghenydd colliery disaster, also known as the Senghenydd explosion, took place at the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd, Wales. </p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/j0r05uF.jpg" width="700" height="455"/></p> <p><a href="https://www.google.com.ng/search?biw=1366&bih=700&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=Senghenydd+Colliery+Disaster-1913&oq=Senghenydd+Colliery+Disaster-1913&gs_l=psy-ab.3...643330.643330.0.644254.1.1.0.0.0.0.236.236.2-1.1.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..0.0.0....0.tYtSkGSDGwM#imgrc=MNke21UyNdxP7M:"><em>image source</em></a></p> <p>At 8:10 am on the morning of October 14, 1913, about 950 men of the Universal Colliery, Senghenydd, had just begun work when an enormous explosion ripped through the workings. </p> <p>The explosion and subsequent release of toxic and poisonous gas killed 439 miners, making the disaster at the Senghenydd pit the most deadly and tragic mining disaster in British history. Many were killed or wounded before they even knew what was going on. </p> <p>Of the deaths, 63 were teenagers, 23 of whom were aged 14-16. 162 others were over 20 years of age. The disaster left 542 children without a father and made widows of over 200 women.
