## Segelfalter ■ Scarce swallowtail
_Iphiclides podalirius (Linnaeus, 1758)_

Seit mehr als einer Woche sind die Segelfalter wieder unterwegs. Die Steilhänge entlang des Mains sind bekannt als herausragende Habitate für diesen Tagfalter. Er gilt als König der Gleitflieger. Kein anderer Schmetterling gleitet im Segelflug so graziös durch die Luft wie der Segelfalter.

_Since more than a week the scarce swallowtail are on their way again. The steep slopes along the Main are known as outstanding habitats for this butterfly. It is considered the king of gliders. No other butterfly glides through the air as gracefully as the scarce swallowtail._

Die Männchen verteidigen ihr Revier gegen jeden Eindringling. Kommt ein weiterer Segelfalter vorbei, liefern sich die Falter atemberaubende Luftkämpfe, um nach erfolgreicher Revierverteidigung an die gleiche Stelle zurück zu fliegen. Das Männchen ist immer auf der Suche nach einem vorbeiziehenden Weibchen. Dieses legt seine Eier nach der Kopula an der Felsenkirsche, oder auch gerne an Schlehe ab. Die Eier werden immer in Bodennähe an die Blattunterseite geheftet. Dort ist es am wärmsten, da der Boden die Wärme lange speichern kann. Der Segelfalter ist am Morgen ein eifriger Blütenbesucher. Er fliegt bei uns in Deutschland in zwei Generationen von Mitte April bis August. Durch zunehmenden Verlust von geeignetem Lebensraum gilt sein Bestand als stark gefährdet.

_The males defend their territory against every intruder. If another scarce swallowtail comes along, the butterflies deliver themselves breathtaking aerial battles, in order to fly back to the same place after successful precinct defense. The male is always looking for a passing female. This lays its eggs after the Kopula at the mahaleb cherry, or also gladly at blackthorn. The eggs are always stapled near the ground to the underside of the leaf. There it is warmest, since the ground can store the warmth for a long time. The scarce swallowtail is an avid flower visitor in the morning. It flies with us in Germany in two generations from the middle of April to August. By increasing loss of suitable habitat its existence is considered as strongly endangered._

Heute am Ostersonntag zieht es uns wieder in das Gebiet der Segelfalter. Der Flug dieser außergewöhnlichen Ritterfalter fasziniert so sehr, dass wir uns schon auf die ca. acht Kilometer lange Tour entlang der Steilhänge mit grandiosem Blick ins Maintal freuen.

Gerade sind wir von unserer Tour wieder zurückgekommen. Der Ausflug zu den Segelfaltern hat sich wieder voll und ganz gelohnt. Ich könnte diesem Schmetterling stundenlang zuschauen. Die Leichtigkeit mit der er durch die Luft gleitet, ist einfach immer wieder faszinierend. Kommende Woche werde ich noch mal ein Gebiet aufsuchen, indem ich den Falter hoffentlich erneut beobachten kann.

Ich frage mich natürlich immer sofort, an was mich das wunderschöne Geschöpf erinnert.
Diesmal schwanke ich zwischen der Boeing AWACS und einem Tarnkappenbomber - aber halt eben nur viel ansehnlicher.

Hallo Wolfram, diesen Schmetterling mit einem dieser Blechkisten zu vergleichen, ist schon fast ein Frevel. Dem Flug dieses Schmetterlings kann kein Flugzeug gerecht werden. Fahre einfach mal nach Karlstadt und stell dein Auto am Segelflugplatz ab. Dann gehst du über die Bundesstraße und 30 Meter weiter unten auf der rechten Seite führt ein Weg entlang der Hänge in Richtung Gambach. Du kannst dich kaum verlaufen, wenn du immer der Hangkante folgst. Bei schönem Wetter verspreche ich dir, dass du ihm begegnen wirst. Hast du ihn einmal entdeckt und seinen geizigen Flug in der Luft bewundert, wirst du ihn nicht mehr mit schnöden Blechkisten vergleichen.

Genau wie der Vergleich mit den Blechkisten machen wir auch den **Wolfgang** ganz einfach ungeschehen. :-)
Das mit dem Ausflug ins Unterfränkische wird jedoch etwas komplizierter, da es in meiner Nachbarschaft zwar auch ein Karlstadt gibt, welches jedoch hier Karlovac genannt wird und als Zwischenstation herhalten muss, wenn ich am Wochenende, aus Zagreb kommend, einen Kurztrip an die Adria einflechte.
