I'm pretty lucky I think. Some people have to close their eyes and wonder how things looked where they live 100, 200 even 300 years ago. I can just walk down the road from my office and down a quiet alley way and see this.

This is White Horse Close. There is some argument as to where the name comes from, some say it is because Mary Queen of Scots stabled her favourite white palfrey there (its just up the street from the royal palace), though its more likely to derive from the 'White Horse Inn' which was situated in the north end of the courtyard (where those stairs are in the center of the photo) from at least the 17th century. <br>
This is an area of the city many miss because the entrance is very unassuming. If you don't know its there you'll walk right past it, which is a shame as its considered the most picturesque group of buildings in the City. <br>
**Fun fact:** This is also the birthplace of William Dick, Veterinary Surgeon and founder of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, which is part of the University of Edinburgh (where I work).
