Opinion: Why the stock market might soon careen down a dangerous ‘slope of hope’

Sentiment can go from bearish to bullish very quickly.  In fact, it can go to the extremes in a blink of an eye.

In December, the view was extremely bearish.  Now, after a rally to start the year, the sentiment is at the other end of the spectrum.  We are sitting on an extreme bullish view.

Using contrarian indicators to time the market is not always correct.  There was a 140 point turnaround in some of the market timers in that time which does add some validity to the case.
