Maybe It’s The Pride In Me.

I can’t be friends with you. 
         I just can’t. 
         We can talk and be cool 
         but that’s that. 
         I do not hate you 
         or detest your existence. 
         We’re just not on the same floor 
         and I’m no good at pretense. 

My mind craves fire; 
         anything to keep it on its toes. 
         It’s not my desire 
         to be dragged in mud and torn clothes. 
         Maybe it’s the pride in me 
         Guess we all need a little dose 
         of that, but I won’t sacrifice 
         my mental health 
         just to be a little closer to you.
