How to encourage your child to read more - Part 3

<p>As we've seen in our first two posts on how to make sure that your little one keeps on reading and enjoying it, the key is to make it fun with either pictures or a genre that they like.</p>
<p>It is also very important for you as a parent to interact with them and show interest in the book that they are reading. In the long run you will see a massive difference in their vocabulary as well as spelling in school.</p>
<p>Let's look at the last three tools, from my side, to ensure your young ones enjoy reading. Remember, these are only guidelines, all of them or some of them might work but it's not guaranteed that any of them will work. You need to get to know your child and approach any learning tool in a way that is best suited for your child. &nbsp;</p>
<h2>Bed time stories</h2>
<p>Make time before the kids go to bed, make bed time stories a part of their daily routines. Start off by reading to them and then switching it up, you read a page and they read a page. Take turns. Then later on, read on line each and once they respond well to the idea get them to read the bed time story to you. This could turn into a fun bonding experience with your little one as well. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Lists</h2>
<p>If your little one isn't so much into fairy tales and make believe stories, let them get involved when you are making a shopping list or a list of things you are taking with on a weekend away. Let them make their own lists of what they need to do on a daily basis and have them read it back to you. This will instill a sense of responsibility as well. This is a tool that will be beneficial to them for the rest of their lives.</p>

<h2>Rewards</h2>
<p>If all else fails, use a reward system to get the ball rolling. If they read for 20 minutes every day you can reward them with 30 minutes extra play time or T.V over the weekend. If they do well and follow the reading schedule all month long then bump it up to a bigger reward. Be careful with this one, this could spoil reading all together. Don't push too hard and don't make the reward too big, The whole idea is to get them to like reading and not feel pressured into it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>All of these tools and guidelines have their risks of not working out, and it's not the end of the world if your little one doesn't bite on the first few tries. Just keep trying and don't only stick to these tools. There are many different ones to try, you just have to make sure you get the right one for your child. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
