The local historical society is working with the Bend on the River photography club, of which I am a member, to create a then/now photo exhibit. I was given this gem, the Yaeger Schoolhouse, which was built in the 1800's. I haven't been able to find much information about the building itself, but stay tuned... The historical society may have some tidbits.

I was, however, able to find this interesting article by Hilda Parks about a rather odd fellow who created a room beneath the building and lived there for some time. As the building is currently a hay repository, there was no way to enter the subterranean space, if it still exists. As you have undoubtedly seen by this point, the building is *not* in the best shape. It is located on private property (yes, I got permission...) at the edge of a farm field. I had to traipse through the freshly manured, muddy field  to get the shot I needed for the historical society. But when it comes to photography, it's usually worth it!

The hay in the image above covers the entire floor and there is no telling how many stacks there were. If the article by Hilda Parks is true, then it is possible that the hay goes all the way down into that room.

If I were the farmer who owns this place, I would totally have a fake skeleton just visible in one of the windows. It's not really all that visible from the road, but could scare the refried beans out of trespassers!
