I'm guessing it's some kind of spores. That or mold. Just wait and see what it does I guess haha! Maybe something will pop up!!

So, actually, I'm not 100% sure that that is a fungus. The simplest way to tell for sure would be to pick it up. I think, if I had to guess, that when you did pick it up and look underneath, you might not see anything but more of that pinkish tendril mass. 

However, it's possible that seeing the underside could confirm, at least, that it is a mushroom. 

To be even more sure of what it is, you would need to not only pick it up, but cut it in half. Which, could be quite disgusting if it **isn't** a fungus, and only slightly less disgusting if it is.

There are certainly a number of fungi which grow on wood chips, but if this one is a fungus I think there are only two real possibilities:

1. It's a slime mold of some kind. These don't usually have the same structures as most  mushrooms you would be familiar with.

2. It could be one mushroom essentially being attacked by another mushroom or a mold. Take a look at this

That's a lobster mushroom, and it's technically one mushroom taken over by a mold that turns it red and makes it delicious. 

**Thing is, the batch of horribleness on your wood chips doesn't look like it was ever a mushroom**

If I had to guess, I would say it is not of fungal origin but rather some kind insect cocoon, perhaps moths or something, that would explain why the structure looks like its been extruded in thin strands.
