Stifled is a thriller that combines exploration and moments of survival horror with a playable experience with or without virtual reality , but designed to squeeze the most out of the helmet. On the one hand, this title offers us traditional exploration sequences, in which we have to go through different environments interacting with the scenario while discovering a story that, from the first moment, already smells like a paranormal.

The game sections are quite simple, and do not offer any playable complexity. It is true that there hidden secrets, and the game reward us for searching in the last corner, but at the level of mechanics we will not find anything surprising. Totally different is the experience of survival horror , where we will live something much more original .

Without explanation, we will plunge into the most complete darkness. In front of us we will only see the stage draw when we make noise , and we will only see the contour lines of the elements. Using the built-in microphone on the PlayStation VR, we can whisper or shout to "draw" the stage. The more noise we make, the farther the drawing distance will be.

Of course, making noise is a double-edged sword. We need it to be able to see, while enemies can use that sound we generate to detect us . Here comes that aspect of survival, in which we have to try to make the noise level just to see without getting to alert them, throw stones and objects to confuse them and find the right moment to move without being seen.

In addition, we will face a multitude of more or less obvious obstacles that will change the way we play. For example, we will find an area full of puddles, where if we step on the wrong place , we will make noise, alerting the enemy. We also have to open some doors with cranks that make a lot of noise when turning them, and we will have to move the enemies away from the area to be able to open the door without being attacked. And it is that once they catch us, we are dead.

### Gameplay
Stifled is a title that manages to shine through its immersion, and to create moments of great tension. The exploration sequences are not too surprising, but when we are surrounded by darkness, listening to enemies in the background, seeing how they draw and blur when emitting sounds, without knowing what their attack pattern will be surprised.  You are assured that you will go through fear, or at least tension .

Of course, the formula has is great "but": it is a game of free movement . If you have been playing with virtual reality glasses for a while, you will probably already be used to them, but this type of game where you can go to any direction tends to make a lot of people dizzy. Also, being completely surrounded by darkness in many parts of the game can be overwhelming, although it is something designed like that.

On the other hand, you will really like having to use your voice to see, although after a while it can be tiring. Luckily, you can use a control button to "talk", choosing the volume of your virtual voice . Stifled allows you to combine the experience as you want, being able to use the microphone or the control at any time, with or without virtual reality helmet.

### Conclusion
Without virtual reality, experience loses a lot . It does not stop entertaining, but the truth is that when you lose all that immersion the sensations are quite different. Obviously, we can continue to enjoy the story -which is not surprising, at least it entertains- and the mechanics of sound and infiltration, but not in the same way.

In addition, it is a fairly discreet technical game, but these shortcomings are normal if we play in virtual reality . The scenarios, however, are well designed, making good use of light and sound to guide us through them. We can not forget to mention the sound, important and very worked. You would not see then stand out, but it job is simply to work well without being noticed. Stifled is a game that is always appreciated, but even more so in a game for virtual reality.

Stifled is an original idea and well executed. It has some rhythm problems, scarce variety of enemies and can be completed in three or four hours, but if you want a thriller with infiltration and terror sequences for your virtual reality helmet, this has seemed a more than valid option .

You will spend a few terrifying times with this game, and you would enjoy this adventure that, without being outstanding but entertains a lot. The playing with virtual reality helmet; playing it with command on TV would lower somethings. Stifled is not perfect, but it is one of those original ideas that are appreciated to see from time to time.
