Open Letter to Steemit Community & Mitchell Loureiro - typosquatting/phising usernames

Hello Steemians. Gabi here.

This is an open letter for all STEEMIT community and it should be distributed.

Let me explain this.

5 months ago, I have lost all my steemit (all my 5478.300 STEEM), all my savings by sending all the STEEM to @bittrexx account. ( it was a mistake from my side, by adding an extra "X" in the username). People helped me with kind words, even sending some small amounts of steem to my account. I had no words and I am thankful for this. It means a lot. Love you all, you know who you are.

And that was the point the made me quit STEEMIT. Until tonight when I have opened steemit.com and wanted to test what happens when you try to login with @bittrexx account( the one with a typo in it).

Well, it sims that you get this message:

So my question is: was this implemented before or after I have lost my funds?
I bet it was implemented AFTER.
And if this system was implemented after, why I have not received my funds? As it seems that this is in place to protect you guys sending funds to the wrong username.
@zurvanic, can you please help me out, can you please check my story?

How about you guys? What do you think about this? Beside the fact that I was stupid and didn't checked twice the username when sending the funds.

The steem that I have sent represented all my savings, all my work since last year. Of course, I have spent some, but I have put a lot of effort in creating nice content and earning every STEEM. And it hurts knowing that they are in another account, and account that was created with the purpose of fooling people and it represent a big minus on the STEEMIT side.

I can only hope that this issue can be fixed and thank you again for reading this. Always check twice when sending funds. It hurts. You have no idea how much.

Because Steemit is a decentralized ecosystem. No one has the authority to ban accounts or fully prevent phishing.

But as long as it is decentralized system, why that message appears now? So it is ok to update the system to prevent you to send money yo the wrong account, but is not ok to refund the funds. I don't get it.
