Before [yesterday](https://steempeak.com/lifestyle/@gadrian/have-you-ever-been-to-ballet), I thought ballet is mostly about dancing on classical music -- something between dancing and gymnastics really -- with precise and graceful movements, often performed in a very sensual way. And of course the easily recognizable pointe shoes.

And there is that.

However... Before yesterday, I missed a lot from the picture.

And I might still miss other facets that I didn't discover yet.

Ballet is also a symbiosis between dancing and acting. And one needs great expressiveness to be able to tell a story to the audience without using any words at all.

Did you get that? Story! At least Swan Lake has one, [much like a fairy tale](https://australianballet.com.au/education-resources/swan-lake-the-story).


And the story has to be told without words. And to do that in a way even a child can understand, music, dance, acting (expressiveness), decor and costumes, they all play their parts.

And it seemed it made the children in the audience all eyes and ears. Hard to accomplish that these days for over 2 hours.

I confess, I was captivated by this ballet. It may have helped that the troop was from Saint Petersburg, the city renowned for staging Swan Lake.

It seems such a blessing now that we have an awesome theater in our province town. And so many wasted years when nobody cared...
