Connected (?)

I remember a time when the word connected, if applied to two people, usually meant they were emotionally entwined, in a relationship; That they understood each other intimately, each others' needs, requirements, boundaries, moods and expectations among other things.

Now it seems the word *connected* means those same two people might have a relationship via a phone screen or a computer and not *actually know* each other at all. They don't even need to really *know* each other and yet will share their most intimate of moments via social media and direct text message. It is completely normal for people to place intimate imagery of themselves on Instagram for instance, for children, *minors*, and adults to send naked images of themselves to a *boy they may like* and *dick pics* are the accepted way to woo a girl seemingly.

An image that could probably best depict modern-day *connection* is the server pictured here and yet *true connection* isn't a tower of buzzing fans, blinking lights or blue and yellow spaghetti cables...And the narcissistic, egotistical behaviour we see across the interwebs and in real life. *Is it?* It all seems so superficial.

Many people feel like a *real* connection is impossible to find, and so in lieu of *real connection* find it easier to accept the casual hook-up-and-fuck connection that sites like Tinder and ashleymadison.com provide. With many thinking this way is it any wonder people despair of finding a true connection with a significant other? Will finding it get easier or more difficult the more this type of thing occurs?

In reality each human has to decide what they need and want from life. Back not so long ago it was a relatively easy choice but now, not so much. There's many options and choices and some, once made, are irreversible...The internet is pretty much forever right? The internet also allows one the ability to *present* their lives, and themselves in a particular way, despite whether it is true or not...The sad thing is that many times perception is not reality and because the fake internet-person is preferable to the real thing the individual resides in the fake world they have created to the exclusion of their lives or working to improve them.

The choices we make each day don't always have far-reaching repercussions however many do. Some may inhibit true connection with others and some may improve it however no matter how connected the world may seem, there's no connection quite like the one made person to person minus all the yellow and blue cables. A real connection with someone you value and who values you. There's nothing quite like it if you're that way inclined. For the others, there's the interwebs.

I have found that many people are ill-equipped to deal with real world connection these days as they have immersed themselves so deeply into engineered environments and personal branded avatars. Life is full of caricatures of people and the inability to tell any sort of fact from fiction in relation to human.

I believe this is true as wel despite my struggles connecting because of my introvertness.  It is incredible to see how it happens these days for everyone to see whereas in my days it was such a private process.  Many call it evolution but it is scary if that is considered progress.

I'm an old-school dude at heart, sure I keep up with tech, but inside I'm analogue and have old fashioned values. I would struggle in this world as far as building a relationship I think...I don't get how it's done. Apparently men don't hold doors for women, or pay when they go for dates! It's all upside down as far as I'm concerned. Lucky I have my girl and don't have to worry about it.

I probably make better connections online than in meatspace purely because while I enjoy my meatspace connections I find them exhausting.  And I was like this well before the internet mainstreamed (I was in high school by the time we got it).  Text chats are a lot easier.

We didn't need the internet to lead fake lives (think people have been doing that for as long as there have been credit cards, I have an extended family member who gives the outward appearance of being rich because he has a fancy house and always has the latest flashiest cars and phones and things but he's kind of drowning in debt), it's just more obvious now because everyone likes putting it on Instagram.

And like every other house of cards they fall down eventually.

Dick pics. I just can't fathom. Lol. I've never stopped thinking penises are freakish looking. An unexpected shot of that would send me heading for the hills. ;) 

It is necessary that I keep a facebook account to stay in communication with several homeschooling and writing groups I am a member of on a local level. As a result I stumble into my feed now and again, and see what the ability to unite a local community together *without* having to be face-to-face can be like. Human nature is an ugly business at times.

People connect in the ways they choose I suppose. (Facebook etc.) Each individual needs to choose what they want from life, then choose to go after it or wait for it to fall in a silver platter. Either option has a result of sorts.
