True freedom over your emotions comes when you learn to be in control of your inner self. 

So many people are afflicted by every little thing that happens to them.

When someone says something or replies to them with something that they don't want to hear, these same people often lose their mind a little bit.

They get blinded by "the red" --> the anger, the rage inside them.

They get blinded by someone simply replying to them on twitter!

It can be funny to watch people explode, but it is also sad.

It is the ultimate indication that they have little control of their inner self.

When you truly have control over your inner self, nothing external can reach your core. Nothing can truly affect the way that you feel about yourself and the way that you live your life.

True freedom, should you desire it, will only come when you learn how to control your inner self and shake off everything external.

If someone insults you.. Laugh at the insult. The insult is either:
1. Not true and therefore, ridiculous in nature
2. True and therefore, an indication of something you ought to seek to improve in your life.

Either way, you win. Should you have control of your inner voice and inner narrative, then you will recognize these 2 paths and pick the one that is relevant to your life and will ultimately lead to an improvement in the quality of your life!
