Over the years, I have had hundreds of Wordpress websites. Yes, 100s -- and I still have a handful. Back in the day, many of them were run as autoblogs with plugins and various feeds supplying the content. So I do somewhat know what I'm talking about here.

Wordpress and Steemit both have a learning curve and you could debate which learning curve is harder. But I won't. 

### What I want to do here is identify the benefits I see in Steemit. 

**1: NO COST**
No website hosting fees here. 
This means there is no price discrimination here. 
If you cannot afford to purchase a domain name and web hosting, you're more or less excluded from using WP. (Sure I know about WordPress.com and Google's Blogger.com and other free sites out there but they come with strings. No strings here.) 

**2: GET PAID FOR POSTING**
Even beginners can earn money by posting here (not saying everybody does, but it's possible - and I'm still learning how it's done).

**3: THE AUDIENCE IS ALREADY HERE**
All you have to do is connect with it by choosing relevant tags and writing content worth reading. 
With WP, you start with no audience and you still have to figure out tags and the knack of writing good stuff.

**4: NO UPDATES**
The WP platform gets updated from time to time. Some updates are security related and therefore critical. Here, we dont even need to think about that sort of thing.

**5: NO PLUGINS = NO PLUGIN UPDATES**
No need for plugins here.
WordPress plugins often need to be updated.
Plugins add functionality that isn't built into WP, but finding the plugin to do what you want done on your WP site can be a challenge. 
Some of the free plugins carry their own risks, either with malware as a payload (a rare risk these days) or poor coding or infrequent updates which exposes your site to hacking if a bad guy figures out how to exploit that poor code. 

**6: SITE SECURITY COSTS MONEY**
Because it's so popular, hackers take aim at WordPress. You can easily confirm that at WordFence.com, Sucuri.net, TheHackerNews.com, ThreatPost.com or dozens of other sites. Then if you are hacked, read the very long list of action steps to try to fix your WP site. *I know from hard personal experience how gut-wrenching and time consuming it is when your site has been hacked.* 
If you want to reduce the risk of getting your site hacked, you can pay for protective services of all kinds. And I do. But with Steemit, that's not our problem. 

**7: AD-FREE**
No advertising here. What a nice change, eh?
