https://i.imgsafe.org/4ece1df315.jpg Masada stands on a mountain in the Judean desert overlooking the Dead Sea.According to one historian Josephus, Alexander Jannaeus fortified the site and named it "Metzada". Later Herod the Great , who became King of Judea in BC 37, decided to make Masada a safe heaven. He built palaces and fortification for himself and his entourage. Masada is a favorite attraction for tourists to Israel. From Tel Aviv we drove to the base of Masada by car. We can go to the top by a Cable car or we can trek through a snake path. The snake path takes approximately 2 hours to climb. Under Titus Romans destroyed the city and its Temple. But a group of Jewish rebels took refuge in this fortress . They continued to hold the place for three years. But in AD 73, Romans attacked the Jews in the Masada.
