It's that time of year! The most wonderful one, right? Every year it seems that I go so hard around Christmas time that I make myself ill. Last year I spent Christmas with a 104 degree fever. I remember that I went to my aunt's for dinner, and by rights I shouldn't have been out of bed at all. The night before I performed an entire acapella set with my aca-peeps at a Christmas Eve concert, a moment in time that has been dubbed the *peppermint oil miracle*, for I had completely lost my voice during sound check an hour before the event, yet thanks to some peppermint EO and Divine inspiration I belted out my solos in *Away In A Manger* and *Mary Did You Know.*

Add in the baking, crafting, and gifting that I do to my already crazy busy life mix, and you get a perennial case of the Kat Christmas Fatigue Syndrome. I know I am not the only one that is afflicted with this thing this time of year, and yes, I know that I do it to myself. Remember, I have a husband. He's very thoughtful about reminding me of just how insane I am. The thing is, I love to give people things that I make. The smile on a person's face when they bite into one of my cake truffles or slather on some comfrey hand salve makes me so joyful. The same thing applies to singing in the yearly Christmas service with my acapella group. The problem lies in there's just so much Kat to go around.

So, in a conscious effort to do better at self care, I am doing something completely unexpected. This Thursday I'm taking off and heading to WSU to spend a couple of days with my nephews. We are going to paint, and do all whole lot of whatever. Nothing is planned, which is just what my over stimulated soul needs. A sabbatical!

With that glorious event to look forward to, the whole getting things ready for everybody phenomenon has been easier to bear. Today, as I packed all of my co-workers presents into the library, I know I had a little more skip in my hop-a-long, for not only was I going to be stuffing my face along with some people that I adore, but I also would be eating some fantastic food. I mean, just look at these pavlovas that my co-worker made:

And not everything running the Christmas race has been all hardcore. In fact, the other night when we came home for Christmas shopping, I walked in the door to this sight:

Our cat Chaos apparently has a penchant for Led Zeppelin. He reclined on my couch for more than an hour, chilling to the sounds of Black Dog among others, emitting from the Bluetooth speaker atop his furry belly. If you tried to remove the speaker from his form he would grab it and cuddle it to his tummy. Maybe I just need to listen to more tunes and chill on the couch around Christmas time....

So in the end, I know many of you out there are going hard Holiday Style. Take it from this maroon, it doesn't matter if you get all the things done that you think you need to get done. Life will go on regardless if you get that cutesy snowflake ornament done to put on Aunt Tina's present, and your well being is far more important than all the extra *things* that we *think* we need to accomplish this time of year. Now, go have some egg nog and listen to some music!!!

Chaos has good taste in music.

Holidays are a crazy busy time of the year. Luckily we have the internet now so I can do all my Christmas shopping from home. I don't miss the crowds.

He is a connoisseur of sound for sure. I grew up listening to classic rock and old country music, so the children (and animals) have been given a pretty solid musication, lol! 

This year, I too did most of my shopping via the Interwebs. I absolutely despise shopping in stores. I just had a few things left to get for my kids and I hit four stores in less than 90 minutes. Get me outta there! 

By the way, are you being buried in snow? We missed out on almost three feet of the stuff due to it being an El Nino thing back here. I HATE RAIN in December, it should be against the law in North Idaho or something. Blech.

Snow is staying south of us. We had the one storm a month ago that dropped a foot, just a few dustings since.  Lots of rain and 50 (!) degree temperatures in the forecast this weekend. 

It's going to be the wettest year on record around here. I'm sick of the rain, but on the bright side I don't have to shovel it.

I don't think they're quite on the level of Led Zep (yet?) but they have the right sound and some fun songs, and radio rock has been so stale for so long that this kind of music is a breath of fresh air. I'd be OK with a hair metal or grunge revival, too. I'm really crossing my fingers for ska to make a comeback. Anything other than the sludge that is still oozing out from the broken remnants of nu metal is good, to be honest.

OGP you are super blessed to have been enjoying GVF for longer than the rest of us, lol! That's awesome. I find myself longing for some quality tunes quite often in this day and age of auto-tune one-soundedness, and I am not even a music snob, I like lots of things! A creature that sings like a cat in heat in a trash compactor makes me happy, and a bit nostalgic, thanks for sharing! The Rambling Ron serenaded us with the Zep quite often, LOL!

That cat is such a character! I don't do as much pre-Christmas craziness as I used to, but I remember well the days when I did a lot more.  I made it through one crazy weekend this year, which included a Christmas tea party (all I had to do was show up and partake in wonderful food and drink), a parade (I just watched it), and two concerts (I was an audience member for both). My girls and I had a cooky-baking marathon on Sunday. Which reminds me, I need to post about that! I will probably send out a "Christmas letter" in January.

Your Christmas crazy weekend sounded like it was a pretty excellent festive melee! I just finished making applesauce cinnamon ornaments with the kiddos and T, it went about as well as can be expected, I will be blogging about that bonanza of odd soon, and I can't wait to read about the cookie marathon with the girls. 

And I have never even sent out a Christmas letter after the fact, let alone on time, so color me impressed, lol!!

The only thing that has helped is that we're getting just too old and tired to deal with the "standard" insane pace, and simply can't do it any more... ;)

Totally! I love your cat and what great taste it has! Zoned out on Led Zeppelin! Ha! GVF - never, but, I have heard of Frankenmuth, Michigan. It has great shopping!  ;) 

 We do it to ourselves. I have always found myself a little less than perky right at the holiday as I fall apart from too much to do(isms) I am the only one who puts this much on me, in my quest to make everything perfect. or at least finish my perfect gift or such. 

You sing acapella? Oh, I love you. Truly. It is actually one of my favorite types of music. (so to speak) I love the rich tones that are not drowned in the music. Of course, I love music of all sorts, not being a snob in the least but I am a huge fan. No voice on performance night. No bueno. To the rescue with home remedies that always work. Grannie knew it best. 

Well, I see that your life hasn't slowed down quite yet, but, I gotta run and make some baklava. OMG. I am taking next year off. It seems like you have a great idea!

Oh crackers! Am I ever sorry it has taken me so long to respond to ya! Things have been beyond bananas, more like banana bread slathered with crazy sauce!

I swear all I kept seeing in your response was the baklava part, hello yum! I'll let you know when the next WSU run happens if you bring the baklava! I love that stuff! 

Acapella is a bunch of fun! I sing with a group every Christmas time, this year we did Pentatonix' O Come of Ye Faithful, did our own arrangement of O Come, O Emmanuel, and did a Doo Wop version that we arranged of O Holy Night. It was a blast. We even did Faithful with a children's choir:) 

I sure hope you made it through the C-Rush in tact, perhaps got a nice rest or two after the day:)
