Hello everyone, 


As stated in our [first post](https://steemit.com/hive-187593/@ghanacare/introducing-ghana-care-charity-foundation), we embarked on our first campaign themed "**HELP COMBAT MALARIA IN THE NAVRONGO COMMUNITY**" where we visited various households within the Navrongo community in order to educate them about the causes and effects of malaria and also provided them with mosquito nets in order to help them combat this disease.

Our main target for this event was the rural parts of the community who are mostly affected by this disease due to poor sanitation and environmental conditions. The people here are mostly farmers and surprisingly enough, they do not clear the various weeds in their surroundings, serving as a habitat for these mosquitoes.  Also, there are no undulating lands here which means that after it rains, water automatically gets stuck in portholes serving as another breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

We were therefore keen on drawing the attention of community members to all of these.

As we went door-to-door from house to house, we first asked about how many times people in the house had gotten infected by malaria and they all seem to get the disease several times a year. When asked what they thought might cause it, they mostly thought it was a seasonal thing that comes along with the rainy season. After we realized the cause of this disease in the community was mostly ignorance, we decided to take the time to educate them on the real causes of malaria which was the female anopheles mosquito. 


We then told them about the various preventive measures of this disease including cleaning the regular cleaning of surroundings, clearing of weeds, clearing of stagnant waters and using insecticides.

Also, of the various houses we visited, 8 different households were given 10 mosquito nets. In our distribution process, we focused on households that had either nursing mothers or children. This is because they are the most vulnerable to this parasite and must be given the utmost priority.

Specific instructions concerning the usage of these nets were also given that it, they must first wash and dry under the sun for 2 consecutive days. We told them we would be visiting them to check up on them later on after our return to campus.
