Cannabis hybrid strains : How are they created?

Hello my friends!

Have you ever wondered how these high end cannabis strains like [Blue Dream](https://www.leafly.com/hybrid/blue-dream), [Pineapple Express](https://www.leafly.com/hybrid/pineapple-express) and [Trainwreck](https://www.leafly.com/hybrid/trainwreck) are created?
How do they get that colour? that taste? that aroma?....

Well it turns out there is no magic or harmful chemicals involved as some might think, just a few plants, a whole lot love & some patience will do the trick!

### Getting started(Selecting the plants for breeding):
Cannabis plants will be either male or female, both of which who carry important traits for the breeding process. Female plants are most sought after, because they make the buds that will be either smoked or used in cannabis products. The male plant carries the pollen, and will pollinate the female plant to reproduce.

As with all things mother nature controls you will need a male & female cannabis plant for [pollination](https://www.google.co.za/search?q=polination&oq=polination&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.2310j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8), as the offspring(or seedlings) will be the hybrid plants.

If we take the 'Blue Dream' hybrid strain as an example, it is a cross between the original [Blueberry](https://www.leafly.com/indica/blueberry) & [Haze](https://www.leafly.com/sativa/haze) strains.
Both the mother and father plant will have its particular traits which can be carried over to the next generation cannabis plants produced.

### Taking care of the plants:
Successfully breeding cannabis plants will take some time, and it might even take a couple of plant generations before you produce a good hybrid offspring.

Cannabis breeding is a simple natural process, but expert breeders selectively breed plants in controlled environments to control the type of hybrid strains they might achieve.

This was just a quick look at some info I found online, as i would love to get into cannabis breeding as a hobby in my own garden :) Feel free to follow [this link](https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/what-is-cannabis-breeding) if you would like to learn more about cannabis breeding & cultivation.
