It's Starting To Get Real Up In Here!

### Whoa...
Doesn't happen very often, so when it does, I like to make note of it. STEEM is currently up over 100%, while the rest of the crypto market seems somewhat mixed, and with numbers not nearly reflecting the same jump.

So far, from what I've read elsewhere, it appears that Justin Sun and Binance are behind some of it at least (speculation being that Sun wants to take advantage of the HIVE airdrop somehow by having STEEM available on Binance since it has announced it will honor the airdrop to its customers), but according to the image below, Upbit is responsible for most of the volume over the last 24 hours.

The next highest is Bithumb, which has been somewhat a troublemaker in the past when it comes to STEEM prices. Regardless, it looks like the South Koreans with the STEEM/KRW pair are making the most noise, if I'm reading this right.

If so, since it's been the Korean Community on STEEM through the proxy.token witness proxy account that has largely held the governance stalemate together for the better part of two weeks while trying to get what they wanted from either Sun or from actual human STEEM witnesses, this could signal some other move for STEEM or even a counter move to HIVE.

I'm afraid I'm not privy to why any of this is happening, other than HIVE news has hit some of the major crypto news outlets, and perhaps there are many who want to get in on the HIVE airdrop, too, though I can't confirm that any other exchange beside Binance has publicly announced support.

Maybe someone else has heard and can confirm.

As far as whether or not this STEEM could be powered up to do something regarding the witness voting, the list of consensus witnesses is largely unchanged thus far since the latest surge in STEEM price began.

Another item to note: This is the first time since late March of last year where the 24 hour volume was nearing or above 50 million. That happened just prior to the STEEM price moving up to $0.70 USD for a very brief period of time.

With the announcement of the impending hard fork to HIVE happening this Friday, there seems to be quite a bit of movement taking place ahead of it. How much and how far is yet to be determined, as well as its staying power this time around. The price in USD was up roughly this much over a month ago around the time Sun announced his acquisition of Steemit Inc., before a sell off occurred then, followed by the general meltdown for seemingly all investments thanks to the corona virus pandemic.

Who knows? We may still be in for more action of some kind (price, surprises, shoe drops, more counter measures, take your pick) as the hard fork deadline nears.

I'm just a bit gutted I've missed out picking up some more BTC, I'd happily sell if I could at the current price, I think by my next PD on Monday it might just be back down where it was at the beginning of the week! 

Oh well, one can't predict these things!

Hey, @revisesociology.

I know I can't predict it, but someone out there must know something is happening before it happens. Seems like there should be someone behind the cause, while the rest of us become the effect. :)

I still don't have a direct way of converting fiat to STEEM, and the one I've been using (Coinbase) has me wait a week before I can use what I transfer to it (which they blame on some regulations in the US, which I know is probably true, but still), so I haven't been doing a whole lot lately with everything that's been going on.

I've been thinking about trying the BTC kiosk that opened up in the mall a few weeks ago, but haven't yet. It's a retail kiosk, so prices are higher and I just haven't wanted to do that yet. :)

Does anyone have a direct way of converting Fiat to Steem? I still have to go via BTC. 

Sounds like it's a real hassle for you, Bittrex and Kraken are a good combination I find - I can deposit FIAT into Kraken for zero fees, and then easy to buy BTC/ LTC with Euros, then it's Bittrex for the Steem, still hassle, but easier than you have it by the sounds of it!

I'm just going to sell Steem and buy in HIVE gradually anyway, week by week, month by month, little by little, I'm not gonna try and predict the troughs and peaks. 

It's just a few billionnaires that control the system I think!

I was pondering grabbing some crypto at current discounted prices however opted to move into the Australian share market instead. It seems I moved too early though. The market dropped another 10% just today. Oh well. I still got a nice bargain.

Hey, @debtfreein2.

Always a challenge to get to the actual bottom of a dip. :)

As it is, I don't know if we're ready for the full take off yet. The halving for bitcoin is coming up soon, and if history serves, somewhere around where we are now is when things start to heat up.

Of course, there's predictions nothing will happen this time around, that the value of the halving is already figured in, etc. I guess we'll see what happens to bitcoin and the rest of crypto. In the meantime, plenty of price bumps with STEEM, it would seem. :)
