Today in history: My favorite movie of all time was released
July 3rd is an important day for me because it is the day that "Back to the Future" was released in cinemas. The year was 1985 (just like in the film) and I was still very young.

<center> ![back-to-the-future-trilogy-1122951-1280x0.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQma7vT1CBVQmVpVrfEgJw4pbRCHbHShuENBAnfhFN4hWWe/back-to-the-future-trilogy-1122951-1280x0.jpeg)

I'm not going to get into what this film is about because honestly, this film and the 2 that followed it are so legendary that I don't think they need any sort of introduction. Basically, if you haven't seen it you really shouldn't be waiting... go see it now. I know I recommend a lot of films but this is **my favorite movie of all time** and you only get one of those!

even the opening credits are incredibly entertaining </center>

Robert Zemeckis was the director and writer of the gem and at that point in time he was a relatively new face on the scene. He has gone on to write and direct a number of super-huge hits (including Forrest Gump, which is definitely in my top ten.) I believe he has an outstanding vision that simply makes his films a lot of fun regardless of the topic at hand.

Back to the Future was my "go-to" film on VHS anytime I stayed home from school. There were a lot of times that I was sick or was pretending to be sick and it was a common practice for us kids when this happened to park our butts on the sofa downstairs in the "playroom" with a blanket and watch movies (basically just stay out of Mom's way.) I would say that there is a very good chance that I have seen BTTF around a hundred times and if it was on right now, i would gladly watch it again despite the fact that I can quote dialogue pretty much through the entire film and know exactly what is going to happen at all times.

I just love so many parts of this film. Including the "Jonny B. Goode" performance where the overdubbed vocals are very very clearly not Michael J. Fox's own.

<h3> Fun Facts about Back to the Future </h3>

* In a very early version of the BTTF story, the time machine was an old refrigerator (glad that got wrote out)
* Eric Stoltz was originally cast for the role of "Marty"(because Michael J. Fox had a scheduling confilct - MJF was always their first choice) but the chemistry between Eric and the script as well as the other actors was so god-awful that the film was put on hold. Eric accidentally made it to the final cut, but the scene is very difficult to spot.
* Some genius from the exec department thought the name of the film was no good and tried to have it changed to "Spaceman from Pluto".... I'm wondering if this guy even read the script at all
* The script was originally rejected by every major studio
* There were no sequels planned when making the first film (that just shows great writing since the films tie together so well in the end of it all)
* Johnny Depp tried out for the role of Marty... his performance was so unmemorable that the casting director forgot he actually had tried out and they had to return to some very old audition notes to confirm this

<hr>

The story, the music, the acting, almost all of the CGI is just perfect and I wouldn't really change a thing about it to be honest. This legendary film debuted on July 3rd, 1985.

Wow! Your post reminded me of my teenage years. I also loved Volver al futuro and Forrest Gump. They are two cult movies and should surely be on the list of the best movies of all time. But from Robert Zemeckis I like The Shipwreck. As a literature teacher, I always use the example of Tom Hanks and Wilson's relationship to talk about the importance of communication for human beings. His films are jewels. I love Zemeckis. ;)

In the States we called that movie "Castaway" but yeah, that is a great film also. I think it was great the way that they made people cry when Tom lost his volleyball at sea. It seems so silly if you were trying to explain it to someone not familiar with the film :)

It's really great film. And I think even now it is actual and must seen! Also I should notice that sound track very good for that time!

Time travel is always an attractive topic. How the future can be manipulated by changing the past reminds me then we probably live parallel realities at all times. This leads to another related and topic: "alternate history" like what would have happens if Rome never had fallen or if JFK was not killed.

This was a really good film. I remember when it came out. It has so many perfect moments. I have a friend and this is one of his favorite movies of all time as well. I don't remember a ton about the second one, but the first and third were probably my favorites. I am seriously still waiting for them to finally invent Mr. Fusion.

While I think Star Wars will always be my favorite, Back to the Future should make it into anyone's top ten list. This was such a great movie and it's impressive that the sequels maintained such a high level of quality. They are all incredible movies.
