# <center><b>Aphex Twin</b> - <i>4</i></center>
## Aphex Twin was one of the first electronic
<div class="pull-right">https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/grapthar/qnePSLkR-maxresdefault.jpg<center><b>Aphex Twin live in London, 2012</b></center></div><div class="text-justify">artists that I heard in high school, helping open me up to the absolutely massive world of electronic music, and remaining one of my all time favorite artists to this day. The name is a stage moniker for Richard David. James, a British musician, producer, DJ, etc. He began his career DJing raves in the 1980s as the British electronic music scene was really starting to grow, eventually influencing the entire world with its sounds and aesthetics. In the early '90s, he began releasing his own material, and developed a sound that has become entirely his own. Though his early material was heavily influenced by the ambient and acid genres that were big at the time, he quickly began to create sounds and songs that were FAR from those origins, and has influenced countless artists and musicians, from every genre imaginable.</div>

## The 'Aphex Twin' sound is built around a sort of yin and

James Album</i> (1996, Warp Records)</b></center></div><div class="text-justify">yang, moving from incredibly chill, often beautiful instrumentals, to spastic, wild, heavily rhythmic songs. He utilized a lot of tools that were new in the world of music production to create wild effects, and crazy patterns that would have been impossible a decade before. Fortunately, synthesizer and production technology had grown a lot, and allowed him to really begin to express his own sound, which he has continued to expand upon to this day. I decided to go with the very first song I ever heard, <i>'4'</i>, from his 1996 album, <i>Richard D. James Album</i>. I had only heard the name <b>Aphex Twin</b> at the time, and, while at a record store, saw this album cover under the title card with his name, and decided to purchase. It was a good call, and got me instantly hooked. It also really expanded my ideas of what music (electronic and otherwise) could really be, and how far you can take things in new directions.</div>
