Some years back, I began to notice the emergence of betting agencies around my locale. At first, it received low reception from people. This was because it was considered to be a way to defraud people of their money. Another reason for the poor reception was based on ethics and morals.
Betting is a form of gambling, and gambling is often seen as having negative social consequences. It is the reason why betting is not legal in many countries. Some of these countries are prominent countries.
The second reason I stated, was the main reason that made sports betting have a slow start in my locale. Although it wasn't illegal to bet in my country, people didn't engage at first because of morals and ethics.
Well, the narrative changed very fast when someone won a huge amount of money from the betting agency and was paid in full.
After that day, these betting outlets were jam-packed with people trying their hands on betting odds. The effect of betting hit people really fast, almost like a tidal wave.
Fast-forward from that time to today, sports betting has finally overwhelmed the whole country. What started out with just one betting platform, has now seen several others spring up. There is intense competition among these platforms. Each one trying to get more customers, either by giving out more bonuses or by providing attractive odds.
Sports betting is now a viral thing in my country and virtually everyone is infected. The youths and adults make up the majority of this betting population though, as there are age restrictions. To some of these people, sports betting is considered youth empowerment. To others, it is even a source of income. While to very few people, it is just for fun. Well, I don't know which category to place myself. I don't consider it fun nor an income source. But I do engage in sports betting.
I apologize for making you feel lost. This article is in line with my series about **SCORUM**.
Scorum is a sports media platform. It is essentially made up of four core components. They are;
- Sports blogging platform
- Commission-free sports betting
- Zero-fee fantasy sports platform
- Advertisement platform.
So far in the series, I have published two (2) articles. The first article was an introduction to the series. I also did a general overview of the platform under some talking points.
These were the talking points in that article;

The point that had the most discussion in that article was ***"How the platform works".*** I went into detail about the basic functions of the platform.
In the next article I published, I reviewed the features of the sports blogging platform.
There weren't many features to talk about though. I only discussed the major features of the platform which are;
- The User Interface
- Sports forum
- User profile page
- Wallet
I also pointed out some other features/functions of the platform, but, I didn't discuss them. Aside from reviewing the features of the platform, I did a brief comparison between the platform and Steemit. The comparison wasn't stirred by my opinion, but that of the project owner(s). They made a strong claim about Scorum being better than Steemit. In my article, I partly disagreed to that ideology but accepted that both platforms were great. I rounded up my discussion about the sports blogging platform in the previous article.

# ScorumBet: Social commission free betting platform.

Scorumbet is one of the four core platforms of the Scorum ecosystem. It is almost similar to any regular platform. The dissimilarities are the fact that it is built on a blockchain. Aside from that, it is completely free to use. The fact that it is built on the blockchain and free to use is why the platform has gained reasonable interests from bettors.
I took ample time to scour the internet for other sports betting built on a blockchain. Google search pulled up many results, but, I was able to find just one working platform. The platform is [Wagerr](https://www.wagerr.com/). I briefly browsed through the platform to find out if it was free. But, I don't think it was.
The implication of this is that, according to my findings, Scorum is the first commission free betting platform on a **"blockchain"**. I placed emphasis on the word blockchain. This because I don't think the regular, physical, betting hubs have their own commission on a user's bet. Well, I don't actually know if they do.
Without further ado, let's delve into the review of how the platform works.

To begin betting on the platform, you have to first access it. To access the platform, you can enter the web address manually or via the blogging platform. Either way will lead you straight to the betting platform.
For first-timers, that is if you've never registered for a scorum account, you can signup on the platform.
Without an account, you can't use the platform. Like I said in the introductory post, opening an account is easy and fast.
Once signed up, users can start placing their bets. The currency of Scorum is the scorum coin. That is the only currency you can use to place a bet.
Scorum's betting platform is quite different from the regular ones we might know.
On regular betting platforms, you bet against fixed odds. On Scorum, you are actually betting against other users of ScorumBet. What this means is that you can set the odds yourself.
## How to place a bet.
To place a bet on Scorum, you can either match an existing odd or create yours.
There are different options you can choose to bet on. But, there are not a lot of these options, especially when compared to regular betting platforms.
If you are a regular sports bettor, these signs, symbols or terms wouldn't be strange to you. Scorum didn't actually change these betting terms on their platform which is a good thing.
From the image above, the market is a match between Tottenham and Newcastle United. Now, you decide to place a bet on the available options. If you are unsatisfied with the odds, you can place a bet with your own odds. But, the bet wouldn't actually be placed until it is matched by another user. When your bet is placed, you can check it out on "my bet" menu.

# First Impressions.
I was greatly impressed with Scorum's blogging platform the first time I checked it out. The same can be said for the betting platform.
First I was impressed with the User Interface.
It has a dark mode theme setup will I really like. Furthermore, I liked the fact that the terms used on regular betting sites were used. It makes it easy for already existing sports bettors to use the platform.
They were some shortcomings for me though. At first glance, I thought the odds were going to be fixed odds. Like the normal odds on regular betting sites. Well, I got to like the idea of being able to set my own odds though. But then, it will be pointless if my bet is unmatched by another user. The implication of this is that I have to place my bet on popular fixtures or markets. I found out that unpopular leagues didn't have any markets. The probability of getting my bets matched on those fixtures would be very slim.
Here's a screen of Egypt league without any market.
After spending some time, I discovered that the top markets are mostly Europe's top leagues. The English premier is the most prominent out of the pack. That is where you will find the top markets on the betting platform.
The only sport on the betting platform currently, is soccer. I was expecting other sports since it wasn't specified that only soccer would be available. Well, I think other sports will be available in the future. The obvious reason why soccer is the available sport, for now, is because of its popularity. I don't bet on other sports anyway, so the unavailability of other sports wasn't a big deal.
Conclusively, I was impressed with the betting platform. The platform is user-friendly, it is safe, fast and free. The shortcomings aren't enough reasons not to use the platform. However, I'm certain more updates are on its way to further improve the user experience.
# Summary.
In this article, I've been able to share a few words about the betting platform on Scorum. I have said a lot of good things about the platform, a lot of which are true. I also talked about some shortcomings of the platform for me. But, I will advise you don't take my word for it and check out the platform yourself. That being said, I will also advise you to use the platform as a sports bettor. That is, if decentralization, free, and fast betting options are your concerns.
