Game of Thrones is Over. What's Next?
# GAME OF THRONES IS OVER, FINALLY!

*Greeting, everyone*

https://images.clarin.com/2019/04/16/ewJXugZ1c_1256x620__1.jpg [Source](https://www.clarin.com/espectaculos/tv/game-of-thrones-numeros-impactantes-detras-fenomeno_0_cFJJ9n7Rt.html)

**As it had been anticipated, the finale of GOT left most fans angry.**

<center>![Power House Creatives Logos FINAL.png](https://steemitimages.com/1500x871/https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUzYupyiqXfdHSGw7s6BBoVB15GL9ZvhUPnWoaEveXTiQ/Power%20House%20Creatives%20Logos%20FINAL.png)</center>

<div class = "text-justify">From the complaints of flops (such as the Starbuck cup or the bottle of water) to the outrage because of misrepresentation of long-established locations, to the actual developing of characters and poor writing, fans around the world has expressed their indignation for a story that did not end as they expected.</div>

---

**I personally do not understand why they took it so seriously. The damn series had the word *“game”* in it, to begin with.**

Seriously, I am just happy it is over (although there are announcements of prequels and sequels).

<div class = "text-justify">Nothing in the series surprised me, not even the fans’ reactions. <B>I think that this generation needs to pause and reflect about what they are doing with their time and their sense of instant gratification and self-entitlement</B>.</div>

---

<div class = "text-justify">I was sick and tired of all the headlines (especially in mainstream media outlets) focusing on the most absurd minutia. From the theories and speculations about how the series would end to the frame-by-frame discussions of details and how they spoke badly of the production. I think that most people have been missing the point on both the good and the bad aspects of the series. </div>

---

<div class = "text-justify">I think that the series represents a revolution in books adaptation and TV productions. It was visually astounding and very well written and acted (until the last season, I agree). This must be the first time in book adaptation history that the movies are actually done faster than the publishing of the books on which they were supposed to be based. I cannot imagine the pressure on George R. R. Martin and the script writers or the artistic disagreements derived from it.</div>

<center>![Power House Creatives Logos FINAL.png](https://steemitimages.com/1500x871/https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUzYupyiqXfdHSGw7s6BBoVB15GL9ZvhUPnWoaEveXTiQ/Power%20House%20Creatives%20Logos%20FINAL.png)</center>

That being said, I think that the series leaves behind some well-known lessons we should reflect upon.
1-	Rulers are not always the ones more deserving or popular.

2-	The evil doers are not always punished, at least not the way we'd want. In this respect, I think that the series wrongly overdoes the assumed justice and balance that rules the world.

3-	Artists cannot and should not please their audiences; otherwise, the artists' visions would stop being theirs.

4-	Audiences cannot expect to be gratified by all personal caprices and should try to see or analyze what the artistic piece is presenting them with.

5-	The most deserving or loved people usually end badly.

6-	People who always do the right thing, even if that means breaking the rules, are destined to live outside the confines of law-driven societies or succumb to its pressing, conflicting, and usually immoral forces.

7-	The path to hell is paved with good intentions. You can’t force people to accept a view of the world, especially when you are certain it is for their own good. That is the mantra of totalitarianism and fighting those ideologies puts you in a catch-22 dilemma.

8-	And, **as Mathew would say, if your right (or left) throne causes you to sin, burn it until it melts**; better it that your whole body burning in eternal damnation.

---

<div class = "text-justify">I think the complexity of the world created by Martin, which is in essence a reflection of our political and social world, deserves more than a tantrum for unfulfilled expectations. After all, what is life but an eternal game where players’ expectations are rarely satisfied and winning is not directly related to aptitude or performance, but rather a random combination of usually uncontrollable factors, including our temper, the root of most of our poor decisions.</div>

---

<div class = "text-justify">Social networks deserve to be put to a better use. Maybe those enraged by the poor writing should start writing their own versions of GOT and we may have a variety of views about what was it exactly that went wrong and how was it exactly that the story should have ended. By analyzing the whys of their proposed ending, these revisionists should learn a lot about what it means to create and what is it that constitutes their expectations for their world and the people in it.</div>

I loved the complexity of the series, the real '3D' characters (not just good or just bad, but very *human*) and the lack of search for the 'ultimate good King or Queen'. I love how Sansa sits on a throne but even she had blood on her hands. Jon was maybe 'deserving' but he's happier somewhere else. Arya is basically discovering the world and that's an epic ending for her. I might be one of the few not disappointed by this ending :D Cheers!

Hi, @soyrosa. Always good to have you here.
I think that those who do not get disappointed are looking at the bigger picture. I agree with you that one of the most outstanding merits of the story is the complexity of the characters. I discussed that with my wife and daughters. It is difficult to always love them or always hate them, just like it is so with people around us. With the probable exception of Sam and Jon, all characters had flaws that made them problematic, at best.
I am just looking forward to the next best series of the next 5 or more years. *Breaking Bad* was my favorite some years ago; GOT substituted it in recent years. I only wish journalism would be up to the creative power of writers and movie-makers. All news agency (by overemphasizing stupidity and overlooking depth) are failing miserably at helping people engage in meaningful interactions with these historical cultural productions.

As far as I'm concerned, I was mainly disappointed by the lack of quantity in these last episodes's narrative.

Both books and series had fed us with proficient narrative until that last season... The contrast was a bit brutal... Let's say it was like a great meal with a meager dessert.

The raw ending by itself didn't disappointed me. Whatever choice that could be made was potentially interesting, and I was very curious about the authors's choice and how they would reach that end point :)

Richer overall season's episodes and the same ending would have been great, in my opinion :)

I agree. I felt as if the characters, whose lines and nuances had provided so many memorable moments, were all of a sudden tired of talking, tired of being clever. It was like the academics gathered at a bar deciding to speak like regular people :)
