He always had liked the rain.
It fell softly on the breeze, delicate, until its final impact on the stone. Rivulets of water ran through his hair, mixing with a small cut on his scalp and trickling down his cheek bone and jaw.

It fell, stained red, matching the crimson of his archers garb and scattering across his boots toe.

Congealed, it drained slowly into the dirt, as the howling of the hellhounds around him rose, egged on by the smell of blood in the dirt.

None of his wounds were serious, but exertion and blood loss were beginning to take a toll. Movement flickered to his right, and he knelt, as another Hellhound leapt over him, snapping its many rows of teeth shut where his neck had been a split second earlier.
Rising, he swung his sword in a long arc overhead, driving it through the hind quarters of the thing, and limbs fell away, hissing and bubbling as they hit the ground around him, before being consumed in black smoke and withering away.

More came, and he met them, in a dance of death that was intricate as it was violent. Bones crunched and flesh fell away from the abominations as he released the magic from each by severing their connection to the world, and their tenuous undead grip on life.

Another four fell around him, and Noodok's heart rate increased, his anger building almost as quickly as his exhaustion.
Another lunged, knocking him from his feet and straddling his chest, roaring in his face.
He returned the roar, a noise of unintelligent bloodlust echoing from him.
Rising with the animal on top of him, he threw it back, stomping down hard on the base of its neck as it hit the ground.

He had miscalculated however, and was abruptly pulled from the dance as another was upon him, dragging him down into the earth with its jaws latched around his thigh, and his sword fell to the ground as it dragged him across the dirt.

Pain shot through his leg, and he attempted to drive a knife through its face, but it bounced across the creatures skull. He struck it again and this time was more fortunate, the blade sticking into the hounds ribcage. It fell away, pulling the knife from his grip with it as its muscles seized up and began to convulse.

More entered his vision as he attempted to crawl towards where he had dropped his blade.
He reached for his sword but was unable to find it. Unarmed, and outnumbered, he fell, multiple beasts latching onto his arms and legs, ravaging his armour wildly. Teeth like a bear trap shut around the back of his neck, and he fell face down into the dirt, rolling wildly, and lashing out with an elbow, catching the jaw and forcing it away.

He turned, ready to struggle again, when he was suddenly engulfed in a ball of fire. The hounds fell away as rapidly as they had assaulted him under the withering blaze, and he rose slowly.

The pendant he had been given from the corps Mage was burning violently against his chest, and a burn in the shape of the Dragons sigil was blistering across his chest. He ripped the pendant off and threw it to the ground, as it hissed and flickered with a bright blue light.

He smiled softly. Wouldn't be the first time Magnus's charms had got him out of trouble. Slowly, the pendant faded from a glowing red back to its usual steel, and he picked it up, fitting the chain back over his neck.
He staggered slightly, his footing uneven, and a thick sheen of blood was dripping from his leg.
He was hurt badly, but he didn't have time to recover.
The hounds would be back soon enough, and he doubted he would be fighting for long in his current state.

Gritting his teeth, Noodok collected his weapons and pushed forward slowly up the hill, to where the gates of the old church lay open, expecting him.
