Movies, dramas and songs while being convenient sources of entertainment, can also act as the modes of enlightment as there are deeper truths embodied in those artistic works. I recently watched a foreign drama which had this mini fairy tale about a boy with a box on the head. Even though the drama only portrayed an image of a boy who is wearing a box on the head, that very concept hit me hard. So, I think it worths having an attempt to illustrate more about the concept of the boy with a box on the head.

When the boy was wearing a box on his head, he cannot see what lies ahead in front of him, as he can only see what was inside the box. This situation can be similarized to the state where people are reluctant to sympathize with other people’s values as they are too sticked to their own. Each individual is an embodiment of the attitudes, morals, habits and values which are unique to his/herself only and this collection of thinking patterns is what makes people differ from each other. However, the world is not all about our own perceptions as there is a wider world lying beyond our insights. Nevertheless, some people tend to forget this universal truth and want to think that their way of thinking is the best and most accurate way. So they are reluctant to embrace the contrasting conceptions which will only miss them the opportunity to observe the vast world, as they are stucked in their own little world.

The boy in the story had to lift up the box and remove it to glance at all the magical wonders that he failed to see earlier because the box mislead his vision. Similarly, the people should not limit their vision only to their own attitudes and values. If they master to value other people’s perceptions while cherishing their own, then they would also be able to witness the unseen beauty of the world. Here, valuing other attitudes does not mean that we have to move away from our perceptions. Rather than that, it is learning to respect other people’s values, just like we respect our own. The decision of removing the box or keep living with the box was in the hand of the boy. Likewise, the decision of limiting ourselves by being stucked in our own perceptions or embracing the world as it is while not losing our values is in our hand!
