Some Great American Indian Paintings

Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas! 

In the <a hreff="https://steemit.com/history/@janton/herman-s-story-comes-to-an-end-896c6438a2154est">last post</a> Herman's astounding story of his capture and time spent with the Apache and Comanche tribes came to an end. 

But in doing research for the story I came across so many great Western paintings and artists that I wanted to share a few of them with you today. 

I'm swamped with other projects anyway and haven't had time to get a another writing post together but if you like art then I think you'll enjoy these.

Here's one by the great Chinese Western artist Zhou Shu Liang. I haven't had time to see if there's enough information on him to do a post or series but I know there's a good story there so that may be coming. 

This one features another canoe which is not typical of Western art. This is called **Silent move.** I guess I'm still thinking about Herman's story because I think that kid looks like him too!

I believe the next two are by the same artist but I don't know who it is, I saw these on facebook. I love the way the artist makes the water movement so real.

The next two are by an artist named David Mann. He spent two years living with several tribes including the Navajo, Apache, and Pueblo in New Mexico and Arizona in order to understand the culture better for his artwork which is very historically accurate.

When I first saw these I thought they were photographs!

You can buy the above prints online but most of his run from $500 to $1,000!

Here's a miscellaneous one I saw on Pinterest that I liked but I don't know the artist:

Another one I found on Pinterest with no signature or artist information, just the title which is **White man's footbell** referring to the jingle that cowboy spurs make. I wonder what he's thinking?

This is one of my favorites because most Indian art is about the male warriors but this portrays two women getting water and I love the realness of the water and the reflection...it's just perfection. I saw this on Pinterest but couldn't locate an artist and it has no signature:

I just noticed that all of these involve water. Perhaps it's because I'm a Pisces! lol. Ok, well here's one that isn't and it's another favorite and so unusual. 

This is by the great Zhou Shu Liang again and shows a couple of young Indian girls selling handmade items in a street market. 

By the clothing and the car model this is around 1930.

Hi Janton! 

The first picture (actually the second showed) was done by the late Ray Swanson,  a painter of Arizona's Navajo Indians and cowboys.

The second was Jason Rich who does charcoal, watercolors and such and sells mostly the giclee versions. Of course, originals are available for a much higher price.  :)  His specialty are the indigenous peoples of the Americas

And on and on... These are amazing portraits and I loved them all!

I recognized them. I actually lived out there and studied art appreciation. Unique styling on many. Others look like the tried to copy styling.

Howdy Janton! I also admire these paintings; they are absolutely spectacular and most of them look like photographs. It is admirable that these artists took the time to do such a intensive research to make their work accurate. The fact that we are not having very many photographs of Indians, makes  them even more precious. 

I also agree about the water; I love it too. I am Pisces Moon by the way, so that could be one reason why we have so much in common. Astrology is my another passion and I know quite a bit about it 😊

howdy Miss Lena! I wished that the camera's were more available and easier to use back then and we'd have alot more photos of Indians, especially in natural settings. It's too bad one of the photographers couldn't have talked some tribe into letting him come and take photos of their culture and village in their natural setting but I'm sure that was too dangerous for most of that time.

What is Pisces Moon? I know nothing about Astrology. You have great taste in paintings! lol.

Howdy Janton! I think that would be possible only if the photographer was invisible, lol. But you are right, it is to bad!
