This is a quick summary from a video I saw earlier today and I wanted to share the points it made as it's interesting.

Organic, in general, is farmed without GMO, fertilizers, and pesticide. They use crop rotation and organic fertilizer, manure for example. Can we go on with our lives without it? Is it actually healthier? 

Organic food is supposed to be more nutritious but they found that organic food contains more anti-oxidants.  Scientist, in general, haven't come to a conclusion to if it's good or bad. How about being more nutritious? They seem to have higher Vitamin C but mixed evidence shows it's too small to make health benefits. But eating them is more important than how they're produced. 

Is organic food more natural? It does include fewer pesticides, not NONE at all. What's the difference between the types of pesticides that organic includes compared to nonorganic? Not a lot, it's actually not much safer. Toxic is Toxic. In the case of apples organic apples are EVEN WORSE! But in the US all pesticides are regulated and tested. Most foods have a fraction of the toxic levels which lets it pass. 

How does organic food impact the environment? Now there are 3 main impacts that we look at. We look at greenhouse gas emission, energy consumption, and land. In 2017 they made a study and neither way are much better than the other and this info is based off 700 organic and regular food production sources. Organic uses less energy but have similar greenhouse gas emission. Fewer pesticides but much more land to produce the same amount of land. Organic and regular are equal in most regards. The huge difference is land usage with regular farming one compared to ecotoxicity where organic farming took the lead. Technically conventional farming helps the environment more! 

Organic food is killing the marketing and the demand is really high right now. The demand can't be covered to global trade is growing as well. Keeping the standard is becoming even more difficult. But it's all about the ideology. Buying organic feels right. They both have pros and cons but the best way to make it happen is a combination of their best features. If you want to eat healthy just buy more frozen veggies. But buying local food is the best way and the freshest.
