Browsing a bit on the internet I found this image, for many it is just an image of a package of cookies, for Venezuelans this image is to remember, personally this was one of my favorite cookies, they were never missing in my pantry, today It is only in my memories, I do not know if the electricity problem is solved soon but in many states of Venezuela they are having a very bad time.

I live in a town where of course we take the light for hours every day, at this time we have days without the vital liquid, telephone lines and the internet are still a chaos as the days go by, but despite all this it seems no end, Venezuelans keep our smile, our spirit, our desire to help the needy, I do not know if everyone, but at least me and my neighbors have joined much more and we try to help each other.

It is customary for me to share a recipe so the moment is the best since the image of the package of guava-filled cookies that brought me so many memories can be prepared at home, so I invite you as soon as possible to prepare them and I assure you who will feel a joy as I had today seeing this image.







**Newton Crackers**

**Ingredients (3 dozen):**



* 115 g of butter or margarine, at room temperature
* 100 g of sugar
* 1 egg
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 300 g of all-purpose wheat flour
* 1 teaspoon of baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 300 g of guava jam or strawberry



**Preparation:**


Place the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda and vanilla in a bowl; mix a little, add the egg and butter and mix and knead with your hands until it forms a dough that does not stick in your hands, wrap it in plastic paper and take it to the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Remove the dough from the refrigerator, divide it in two parts and place a portion on the work table, with a piece of plastic paper underneath and one on top. With the rolling pin, stretch the dough until it is about half a centimeter thick; remove the top paper and, with a short pizza or knife, form a rectangle and in the center of it, without reaching the edges, place a generous portion of jam, fold inward, first on one side and then on the other, so that both ends are superimposed, as kind of an envelope.


Turn the dough so that it is closed down and with a sharp knife cut the biscuits, about 4 cm on each side and see placing them on a baking tray lined with waxed paper, repeat the operation until the dough is finished. Take preheated oven to 180ºF for 20 to 25 minutes; Remove and place on a rack until cool, if a little filling comes out remove it with a knife.
