Do You Think He Lives In a Crisis of Middle Age? 40 or 50 Years

Hello friends have somehow made us believe that people are forced to go through what many define as the crisis of middle age. Now, for those who have raffled 40 or 50, what they experience is actually an awakening. It is to put aside old beliefs, conventions and stereotypes to reformulate, to write a new and better personal stage.

It is not crisis it is an awakening

If there is a word we hear almost in excess it is the word "crisis". There are social crises, economic crises, cultural crises ... not to mention the usual personal crises. More than something punctual in time or occasional throughout our life cycle, we could assume rather that the human being lives in a permanent state of changes, oscillations and ups and downs of lesser or greater consideration.

"Do not be afraid of slow changes, fear only to stay still, to remain motionless."

-Chinese proverb-

Now, if we analyze this term for a moment we will realize one aspect. Within a clinical context, a crisis involves a temporary disorder of disorganization. It implies that the person feels unable to handle certain things with the methods or resources that he had until now. There is also a traumatic or threatening component to see their own expectations threatened or collapsed.

If we apply this definition in the so-called crisis of middle age, we will realize that many of these points are not fully met. Not at least in the new generations of men and special women who have already reached the mature stage of their existence. This new population sector already challenges the traditional vision of that period, which was previously critical. Because what we have now is what many define as "an awakening". There is a search to achieve something better, a positive reformulation where to gain strength and personal growth.

Does a middle-aged crisis still exist today?

In psychology we understand that each stage of human existence entails a series of challenges and difficulties. In this way, the so-called development crises or transitions make up those moments between childhood and old age, where often there are various interferences that jeopardize our identity, expectations and sense of control. The person is obliged, yes or yes, to leave behind certain ideas to assume new realities.

Somehow we have always assumed that there are certain crises that are "predictable" and an example of this is adolescence. Now, the crisis of middle age is undergoing changes that demand a redefinition. In this way and until not long ago, the entrance to that late summer with the air of autumn (mature age) implied only one thing: to assume the disappeared youth and the subsequent transformations: aging, menopause, loss of parents, empty nest ...

Nowadays, other ideas come strongly. Other winds more renewed.

A smile can make you happy the day

Maturity is not synonymous with losses, but gains

To this day, many voices demand that the term mid-life crisis be changed through the search for identity in the middle of life. There is a transition, there is no doubt. However, more than the loss of "something", what happens is a personal search, an eagerness to leave behind a stage in order to reach another with better resources, freedoms and identities.

It is a time of gains for several aspects:

There is no desire to go back, to recover the freshness of the 20 or the energy of the 30.

There is a conviction that the past has been well lived, had its usefulness but mature age should be constituted as an advance towards personal fulfillment.

A good part of people, and especially women, what they want is to find their place in the world. And this last can become an engine of exceptional change.

couple overcoming the crisis of middle age

A time of expansion

Social networks are a reflection of our reality. To understand the essence of this change in the so-called mid-life crisis, it is enough to look for the hastag # FaB (fifty and beyond, "fifty and beyond"). After him, we will find a generational movement full of vitality. Because mature age is not senescence, it is not loss, but gain and above all expansion.

The "fifties" of today are very active people intellectually and professionally. They are that human capital that offers excellence to companies and quality to any organization or project. Because they have a greater critical sense, because they know how to solve problems better and have an experience that knows how to update itself, that applies lateral thinking.

Likewise, we can not ignore the unstoppable and hopeful social change that women experience. We see them assuming positions of power, we are witnesses of how they carry out their own leadership projects, how they are often able to make drastic changes in their lives to fulfill their dreams of youth once they reach maturity.

it's never too late to be happy

To conclude, the crisis of middle age is no longer so critical. Because nothing is lost in the mature age, on the contrary, it is won. Because the old values have already expired and happiness is not related to youth exclusively. The well-being, the realization and the illusion have no age. At the end of the day, one begins to really age the day he stops putting plans on his horizon, the day that the purposes are blurred and fear or the shadow of limitation arises.

Let's not call it, therefore, a crisis to what, in reality, is an awakening.
