One Photo Every Day: Photos for cumulative four days away (19-23/365) The OPED project, Nongkhai photos
During my train journey last week, I met a very nice family, a mother with two young girls. The older girl was suffering from train-sickness and she was holding a plastic bag in her hand all the time. There were altogether four children in this section of the train, the other two boys belonged to the other passengers. They all got together and started to have fun and games while running and making loud noises along the corridor. I went up to the children and told them to lower their noises later on as people would want to go to bed.

To my surprise, they all responded in such a nice and gentle manner and the boys started to show me their new watches! I asked the boys who chose these watches for which they said their parents. So, I told them these watches were suitable for old people because they were all gold plated with black straps. The boys were horrified! I think that their parents next door were pretty shocked too. I told them to choose their own watches next time and not to follow grownup's choices. The other two girls promptly showed me their pink and blue cartoon watches for which I gave them lots of compliments. The girls were very pleased and so was their mother. I think that children should have simple and joyful life without the burden of having to show off that they are rich like most rich Thai adults do.

During the long weekend, I often take the train journey from Bangkok to the north-east of Thailand, Nongkhai, to do some gardening and check out my retreat cottage by the Mae Nam Khong River. The train journey was very comfortable comparing with the old trains last year. These trains are clean, fully air-conditioned, with modern rest rooms and a shower for the first-class passengers. I was surprised that all the first-class seats were fully booked and the 'lady or women only' second class compartments were also full. The difference between the first and second class is that the latter are open double-bunk beds with curtains for privacy. The former has a double-bunk bed per compartment. So, there are only twenty beds or ten compartments in the first-class train, whereas there are forty bunk-beds in the second class. The train journey takes about ten hours to reach Nongkhai.

I am used to traveling by train and found the journey quite comfortable and relaxing. That is the best time to check out my blog on Steemit, passengers can recharge mobiles or notebooks and there is free WIFI on the train. The drawback is that when the train goes through fields, woodland or mountains, the internet connection would become dead. So, I kept losing my typos and comments and had to login again quite often.

Today the rain clouds make Bangkok very grey and dull with a tint of melancholy. The low depression and rainy storms have just impacted Vietnam and Laos; today it is our turn with heavy down pour in the northern provinces and spasmodic rains in central area.

Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.

Cheers.

@kaminchan ·
Thank you very much! @hangin. I hope you and your friends will have the chance to take a tour around the border provinces from Loei to Nongkhai, Buengkan down to Sakon Nakorn.
I haven't done the whole loop yet, only in fragments. There's a lot to explore around that area. But for a few days' trip. One could do a short trip to Udon, Nongkhai and Vientiane (Laos). Lots of development in Laos, lots of Chinese construction projects; things are changing fast.

Cheers.

@onetree ·
All your photos are so beautiful, and carry with them the peace of the photographer. I would love to go on a train trip again. I did when I was a young girl, but now ordinary rail is too dangerous to use in South Africa. Luxury trains are too expensive. But late at night I hear the faint sound of a faraway train and find it comforting. Thank you for sharing your life.

@kaminchan ·
Thank you very much @onetree. I am glad you like simple photos taken by a small pocket camera. All my friends are telling me to get a more professional camera. But these are very expensive, heavy and too big for my pocket!

I like traveling by trains and I learn a lot from observing other passengers. Sometimes I even met foreign healers, Thai mediums and yoga gurus on the trains! I have some amazing encounters on my train journeys. My friend went on the special train running through Siberia and Tibet a few years ago! Oh! I would love to see all those ancient mountains and feel their energies.

It's a pity that things have become more unstable everywhere, safety is becoming a precious gift. Train fares are still reasonable here, but the night trains' tickets are more expensive as they are sleeper trains. I could have traveled by air-conditioned coach which will take me only seven hours. But the journey would not be very comfortable and I would not meet interesting people.

Cheers.
