STEEM is Full of FILTHY TRON Turncoats! WTF

Welp, seems like we're going to end up amalgamated into the TRON blackchain according to news that broke earlier today from Justin Sun saying that their considering (or already have) acquired Steemit inc. Word on the street is that we're going to have a token swap from the STEEM network into a TRON token, which will be facilitated by Poloniex.com by the sound of it. Within an hour of the potential network merger rumour being announced we had long term STEEM users changing their aliases on the discord server to various witty TRON names as seen above. There seems to be a divide on people accepting the TRON / STEEM merger and others who don't like the idea. Which seems about right considering people are often wary of change, and twith change on the horizon people are bracing for it in their own way.

We've already forked the current STEEM source code here: https://github.com/SteemClassic which has been backed up by @cadawg. I have a suspicion that we're going to have the current STEEM sourcecode continue on with an updated name, and also have a chain that goes on to be converted / amalgamated into TRON.

I'm going to support #STEEMCLASSIC or whatever we're calling it. While I will convert over my STEEM tokens to TRON tokens on one blockchain I will continue to be a witness for our original chain. You cannot take our blockchain away or buy it from us Justin Sun. We will continue to run this blockchain regardless of Steemit Inc.

There is only a few options for mutual existence and chances are slim to none that those will happen. If there is anything that we have learned over the past years is that Inc cares little for the user base, we have been a means to an end.

Do have to say that a number of witnesses have been very useless as it has been so hopefully this rousts them out of their cave to actually do something for the chain, and not against.

actually I am pretty sure (not gonna go look this up right now but I definitely recall this being the case) that the Steem name is NOT steemit, inc. property, hence the switch to using the stinc logo instead of the steem logo by stinc some time ago

I think we are missing a key issue here.  I agree with you in principle, but the solution of forking is only one part of the solution: 

Surely the weak link here is the guarantee that the steem devs will continue to develop communities and smts to their conclusion. If they are instructed by their new employer to cease development of these items on steem and instead immediately start implementing these features into tron, Steem becomes a dead chain over night (in conjunction with the moves with integrating steemit.com and changing out the token on the exchanges). The only thing we rely on now is vanderberg and the other steem devs having the balls to step down out of principle. and simultaneously, the steem community finding a way to pay these guys to finish the SMT and community work on Steem and not Tron.

We are basically dependent on the level of principle the key steemit inc members hold in their propensity to step down from their nicely paid new jobs and go it alone to finish the Steem blockchain dev work, or continue to work for Tron.

This issue MUST be solved before forking and it must be solved in order to protect the chain from future hostile take over attempts, regardless of whether this is a hostile take over or a win win.

We do not need Steemit inc in order to continue the development of SMT and communities. We've already got the code forked as of the announcement today and sitting there waiting for further development. The plan is to fork out the Steemit Inc stake and put a large majority of it towards a development fund, then distribute the rest to active supporters of the "STEEM Classic" chain, which I'm leaning towards calling MEET.

If Steemit Inc gets bought out and STEEM gets amalgamated into TRON the current Steemit Inc developers are going to be out of work anyways, this is an opportunity to get rid of Steemit Inc and continue on with the chain in a truly democratic fashion. 

Waiting till tommorow to see their full announcement. The MEET fork proposal is already in the works but will not be released until after the official TRON / Steemit Inc statements tomorrow.

yes, with you.  Additionally, i will anticipate resignations from key steemit inc members.  I am hopeful in a positive outcome, but what you are saying needs to be the plan b as well as the resignations.  and then we will have to work out how the hell to fund the devs.  but i am sure that together we will manage

I’ll for sure go with steem classic! If they gave me a Tron allocation it sell it the second I got it lol!
