The attack of the raccoon continues. > Kill count six. Chicken count 8. Continue from [before](https://steemit.com/life/@kubbyelizabeth/when-they-travel-then-there-were-four#comments), I came home from work to find yet another two chickens died. The kill count was at an all-time high. Worst off when I counted the chickens there were only a couple still alive, where did everyone go? Also, someone had been in here. The dead chickens had been moved, some of the fruit had been eaten, and it doesn't look like it was an animal. I had forgotten my parent's farm friend was going to come over. He came and left, but didn't bury the dead, didn't take the chickens, and didn't set the trap for the raccoon. *Did he come to eat and leave?* Mom later told me he came and just checked on the chickens and left. Thanks for nothing, dude! Mom had a brilliant idea to put the remaining chickens in the garage. For two nights they slept in there, at this point we are down to the last three. They managed to climb the tree to the top and getting them down was interesting. At one point, I had to climb my parents outdoor brick grill, scoop them with the handle of the shovel I broke, and slowly carry them down, grab them, put them in a cage, and then in the garage. I only wish you could have seen this in person. > Now I see my dad just scoops them up like a cat. Had I know I didn't have to be so delicate with them I would have done the same. Did you notice I only mentioned three chickens? There were fifteen. Six died. Three were left. Which means six were missing. When the parents returned, dad found one more dead behind the shed. I think she got stuck there. The others are still MIA. The parent return and they were so proud of my success and I was so embarrassed. Mom and dad spent two days trimming the jungle that had become of our backyard. We still haven't caught the raccoon. One morning we didn't put the chickens in their cage and two were found on the roof. The other, I caught on my way back from the gym. She was chilling in front of our house. Mom thinks the other chickens are probably down by the lake. All I know is I am glad to be done with farm chores. ### What's next for your farm? > Remodeling the chicken hen. Buy more chickens? The land needs to be redone, the chicken coup needs to be rebuilt, and our so-called fence needs to be done as well. I keep forgetting to take pictures, but will eventually do so. I want to learn how to properly kill, clean, and cut a chicken. Mom and dad feel bad for the remaining survivals, so who knows if they will ever teach me. Once the hen is redone we will most likely go shopping for some more. I'll keep you updated.
https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmPkBpp9Vt718NdCPSo4FEkD6DS1AAa4XVkjvocHmiu9A5/image.png ###
Thanks for reading, upvoting, and commenting!
### Love always, https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTJiX8TmUgc21VqGu53iuMDdFtNoZgaPAzAJ8pwrbXiaT/Kubby%20colorful.png [image source](https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2018/08/15/11/48/chicken-3607863__340.jpg)

I seem to have missed the bit where you became a farmer, but I have missed quite a bit recently :S Fun things with chicken coops, trying to make them predator resistant. If you have a dog that won't eat them itself they're sometimes useful as flock guardians as smaller predators probably won't come around if there's a big dog patrolling the area. We used to have naked necks as they're cool looking (well I think anyway, naked neck chicks are the cutest XD
https://technonaturalist.net/sites/default/files/blog/naked-neck-cross-with-chicks.jpg

from my backyard a couple of years ago when we had way too many chickens and chicklets
They're easier to pluck apparently. My partner knows how to do the killing and cleaning and cutting, I know in theory but don't do that side of things. Good luck with the next lot of chores :)
https://technonaturalist.net/sites/default/files/styles/sensible_display/public/art/2017/11/goatsig-t.png?itok=Ml3FDq7c

Thanks for the tips. Thankfully chicken duty has halted, for now. We are remodeling our hen house and we don't care for dogs. Can't wait to see what new hen house dad builds for them.

Your loss is very regrettable. Once I had ducks, and at night the little ducks were attacked by rats that bite their bodies. The solution, place them in a protected pen and keep the area illuminated. I'd wish to be a farmer.. Again.. Hahaha I wish you the best!
