Today, during the transition to science-intensive technologies, almost all spheres of activity require information technologies (IT), which are the main information resource in the development of the economy.

Information technology began to influence the life of society in the 19th century. Large computers were used only to automate repetitive information processing.

So, in the period from 1960 to 1980, more than 12 million workstations related to information processing were automated. This led to a decrease in the size of enterprises, but did not have a significant impact on the organization of labor in general.

The information revolution became a consequence of the appearance of the personal computer. Information has become an economic resource. Computerization has penetrated all areas of activity. 

The widespread use of personal computers and information networks made it possible, along with automation, to informatize workplaces.

In recent years, in developed countries there has been a process of decreasing the number of workers employed in the sphere of material production, and more and more of those employed in the information sphere. Information has become a product of activity

the majority of the employed population. So, in economically developed countries, the number of people working in the field of information processing is 60-90% of the active population. 

Due to the informatization of society, which is the main driving force of scientific and technological progress, labor productivity is growing.

At the initial stage, information technologies, due to their high cost, did not have a significant impact on the organization of labor as a whole and practically did not affect the solution of managerial problems. Information technologies have a rapidly growing potential, the use of which allows opening up great opportunities for new forms of labor organization and employment. 

At this stage of development of productive forces, various information services provide opportunities to reduce production costs in organizations that are associated with systems for collecting, searching, processing information, to ensure the conditions for their uninterrupted operation, to effectively carry out management based on information and telecommunication systems. All this ultimately leads to an increase in labor productivity.

To date, the main result of investment in information technology is the growth of labor productivity, which is one of the main indicators of the company's performance. However, information technologies in the modern information economy often affect the growth of labor productivity and economic growth not directly, but indirectly. 

This influence is often expressed not so much in quantitative as in qualitative indicators: changing the structure of enterprise management, improving the quality of products, increasing productivity in the service sector, improving the quality of customer service.

Today, in the rapidly developing information society, the use of telecommunication technologies has fundamentally changed the traditional approach to work. Now workers have the opportunity to independently determine the working regime, the work can be done partially or completely at home. 

The spread of information technology has led to an increase in the comfort of work, the emergence of new forms of employment and training (remote employment and distance learning). 

Such changes demonstrate the process of development of enterprises and, confirm that the quality of economic growth changes along with the use of information technology.
