## Wireless Electricity

Wireless Electricity was first demonstrated by Nikola Tesla in the 1890s. He connected 2 metal sheets to a Tesla coil oscillator, which applies high voltage radio frequency Alternating current. An oscillating electric field between the sheets ionizes the low pressure gas in the long Geisler tubes in his hands, causing them to glow in a way that is similar to neon tubes. 

Wireless Electricity can also be called by these terms and they are: Inductive Power transfer (IPT), Resonant Power Transfer, Inductive Coupling, Resonant Wireless Power e.t.c. Wireless Electricity is the transmission of electricity from a power source to an electrical receiver without any connectors, usually across an air gap. Wireless electricity essentially involves 2 coils; a transmitter coil and a receive coil. The receiver coil is energized by alternating current generated from the power source which creates a magnetic field, which induces an electric current in the receiver coil. 


## How Wireless Electricity works

When you run an electric current through a copper coil, the coil will produce a short range magnetic field. When you  place a second coil within this field, an electric current will flow through it. The magnetic field has transferred electric current from one coil to the other. 

The coils used by wireless electricity to transfer electricity are known as magnetic resonators. A rapidly oscillating electrical current is applied to a magnetic coil at a specific resonant frequency and this creates a magnetic field in the region around the coil. When you tune a second coil to the same resonant frequency as the source and it would couple resonating anywhere within that region and converting the oscillating magnetic field into an electrical current within the second coil. By attaching the second coil to a device such as a phone, computer or an electric powered device the current that is generated can be used to charge the device or even power it. The source can be a short or long distance away from the device been powered and can deliver electricity through obstacles or even walls, it can be used to power more than device at the same time.

* Wireless Power Transfer allows greater freedom between power source and device, that is to say that both the power source and the device don't have to be aligned before power transfer can take place.
* Eliminating cords can enable device manufacturers to make lighter and more portable devices
* It prevents sparking by avoiding by avoiding wired contact
* allows easy movement, as it allows you to conveniently use your device while charging.
