Singapore recorded 132 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours with six of them import cases.

According to a statement from the republic's Ministry of Health today, all import cases are placed under home quarantine notices, upon arrival in the country.

According to the ministry, the new case also recorded a case of infection in the community involving locals, while another was a work pass holder living in a stand-alone hostel which also served as a quarantine center.

Following the latest development, the total number of COVID-19 infections in Singapore now stands at 54,929.

Based on the full data released late Friday, the ministry said the screening test on all employees in the hostel, except for a few independent dormitory blocks that serve as quarantine centers, has been completed.

According to the ministry, workers at the quarantine center will be screened after their segregation period expires, so it is expected that the number of cases in the coming days will remain high, before recording a decline.

As of noon Friday, Singapore had classified 739 cases reported as import cases, 2,190 cases of infection in the community and 51,868 involving dormitory occupants.

At the same time, a total of 48,312 patients or about 88 per cent fully recovered from the infection and were allowed to leave the hospital or community care center.

Meanwhile, 124 confirmed cases are still being treated in hospitals with most of them in stable or improved condition and none are placed in intensive care units.

A total of 6,334 cases with mild or clinically mild symptoms, yet tested positive for COVID-19 were isolated and treated at community centers.

So far, Singapore has recorded 27 deaths due to COVID-19.

A new cluster was also identified yesterday, namely the hostel at 66 Tech Park Crescent.
