They are either going to blame the next recession or the one after on climate change. The only reason it won’t necessarily be the next one is that they might blame Trump. Incidentally, Trump’s trade war, artificially low Fed Funds rate (which he lobbied for), excessive spending, and immigration restrictions are part of the problem, and will make it worse. 

The real cause remains the structural issues which are inflating equities far in excess of growth. Most especially the government subsidies and price supports for housing, student loan subsidies, guarantees for major firms, such as GM, bailouts, and targeted tax exemptions. Incidentally, these are the same policies which are responsible for the reversal in the dispersal of wealth. The concentrations of wealth Bernie, Warren, the Dems, and even most Republicans are concerned about are directly caused by the policies they advocate to ameliorate it.

Never mind that though. As the world shifts from Keynes V Friedman/Hayek to Marx V the Fabian Society, innovation will grind to a halt, and the global trend towards rapid poverty reduction will slow down and eventually reverse. When it does, whether there is a major collapse or just a Great Stagnation, the political left *will* blame climate change, though it will have zero to do with it.
