To me, a blockchain looks more like an endless rope with knot work progressively adorning it's length. I'm sure the programmers would have a word or two for me about this, but it's only an analogy. The knot, before buttons, buckles, zippers, and velcro, the knot was king. Knots were how the world was held together. Sailing, climbing, horsemanship, and fishing, all this and more. Knot tying was once a merit badge. The only knots that most people know today are a shoelace bow, the overhand knot, and possibly a windsor knot. This is the story of the reef knot and the thief knot. The reef knot, or square knot, is the combination of two opposing overhand knots. It is the shoelace bow without the loops. It is known as a reef knot, because it is used to secure the reef in a sail. To reef a sail is to reduce the surface area of the sail that is exposed to the wind, by rolling or folding the sail. Notice how the working ends both end up on the same side. http://i2.wp.com/forestschoolportfolio.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/square_knot.jpg This is much more secure than the granny knot, which is two overhand knots tied in the same direction. but this is the tale of two knots not three. The thief knot is a less secure, and more difficult to tie knot that was used to foil thieves, hence the name. It is, essentially, a reef knot, but tied in a fashion to end with the working ends on either side of the knot. This was done so as to identify when someone has tampered with the object the knot was used to secure. A thief, being usually in a hurry, might not notice that the working ends were tied opposing each other, so when it was tied back, the reef knot was used, leaving evidence of this tampering. https://www.readytribe.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/SK10.jpg Here they are, side by side. see the difference? https://i.ytimg.com/vi/84diSUUGPxs/maxresdefault.jpg Here are a couple videos in case you'd like more illustration. How to Tie the Square Knot or Reef Knot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOAxiQk8wj8 How to Tie the Thief Knot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4bi3zcqHCg &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Depending on the response, I hope to begin a series on knot tying and lore. So what do you think? Are knots still used by any but specialists? Wow, 8 votes in 2 hours. I guess most of you could give a flying crap for knots. I wish I could figure out what you do care about.

If one post is the worst thing lost from the fork, I'll be okay. Too bad, still, I did like the herding comparison theme. Haven't had much time for Steemit. I need to resolve my lack of income. HF hasn't helped. I am loathe to quit, I like it here. If I can find a way to make this endless, relentless time sink pay a basic existence, I'll never leave, but alas, so far it seems to be going rapidly in a wrong direction. I was actually shocked to find out that Steemit has only very recently begun professional marketing. I've been studying more game theory to see how to use it for Steemit. The dynamics of mutual benefit seem so obvious. Not often, in the structure of games, do I find individuals who seem bent on thwarting their own interest, or attacking their own investment. We have some of that here. How do you factor in a, not just contrary, but deliberative, and measured disruptive force? Maybe we need ten times as many trolls to allow the system to become resilient. Some things are difficult to fix until it is seen HOW it breaks. I find myself at a loss to explain why something like Steemit hasn't simply exploded in popularity. If enough potential Steemians could be attracted, and the system be not corrupted, too much, Steemit could become like owning a gold mine that vomits out gold as we walk by every morning. Currently the incentive is against everyone contributing their best, or bringing more people here. I hope this changes, I'll help it if I can.

yeah I know how it goes, I'm almost lost my "High Hopes" still Pink Floyd is out there :D The only way is to voice voice voice and network work work :| we need to catch more fishes in good idea nets :D I wouldn't get caught up in that bullshit, I've been watching it from the sidelines mostly, it's not worth the investment, retardation is everywhere, I wouldn't say we need more of it, I would say we need to work together and help each other out :) its so much better to see how people succeed than to watch bullshit wars unfold, who cares, hold steadfast to your values, and get people on your side :) then keep them there, I think we need to study :D stock markets :D with us being the stock, It's a shame but that is how it is, many are farming steem, posts are stock and you are a trader caught between the endless inflation, I'd rather have a community, buuuut we have real life and that has it's inherent flaws, I think the system is broken and that's why the value isnt 4$ as it used to be, the really committed people have already omitted their wishes to get this "endless, relentless time sink pay " It's not about personality, it's about other people and marketing(networking) and stock management :| sad but that is the most effective strategy :) at least in the moment, either that or buy in with 100k :D therefore become the bast and eat the fishes :D they will crawl up on your back by themselves :D On the last paragraph, I again know how you feel, I've been reluctant to spread the word, it's a bit vague, no real goal, no real purpose, no core :| so that is what is missing, we had ned and dan now we have ned, he's just a man, but yeah we are in still at a good time to make the foundation strong even if the core has been mined out :( by the way the mining stage has ended so the gold is already spread we are on the river catching nuggets here and there :D which only makes the river hold less gold as it seems, Either we focus on building a thriving healthy community or we get sunk real deep and the best we get is a memory a short story and maybe some long lasting relationships when we all start our own blog pages :D humm (b log) what's that? book? humm so let's write a better story and "The Marketing of Steemit - Fantastic that there is a Dedicated Team. Execution of Plan is What Matters." quoting @ebryans latest post *(g check out his post on libraries and get inspired :) ) To conclude the game theory is fleshed out the tech is on par and not only that but even better, the marketing was and will be shit for the next few month until things pick up, the token is broken and the community is what's keeping the growth back, nobody is using anything everybody is "mining" and looking for gold, so there is no long term value, no service that is using the token either other than the upvote button and the trade crypto on polo or whatever, we are just diluting the shares and pretty much trying to figure out what to do, at best we can make the worlds best platform :D with a vibrant community incredibly uplifting and tightly knit, at worst, whatever g bitcoins and get a job :D dream big sleep all day :D Cheers to ned and dan for the game theory, we should make our own nets and boats to navigate the sea we have here :)
