BIG BIRD WATCHING

No, not the bid yellow one. Real birds of prey are back on Long Island to make their nests and raise their young. One place to look would be appropriate named Osprey Park.

Last year there were an abundant number of nesting Ospreys.

There were a nesting pair here at Osprey point last year but no sign of them today....

The same pair will return to the same nest every year if they stay healthy.

At times they will fly so high the 5 foot wing span bird will look like a same dot in the sky.

These big birds of prey feed almost exclusively on fish. Both salt water and fresh.  Also commonly called sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk. That's why their nests are found short distances from bodies of water. Usually in  high trees or man made platforms. They will sometimes build their nests on homes, towers, utility poles. You name it, whatever is suitable to them....

No Hawks here today but at least the scenery is great.
