# The People of Illinois Think Their Government Sucks, Want Legal Weed

A recent poll conducted by the [**Paul Simon Public Policy Institute**](http://paulsimoninstitute.siu.edu/) (no, not *that* Paul Simon) at **Southern Illinois University in Carbondale** shows that 80% of the respondents are dissatisfied with the direction the state is headed, and **66% (a healthy majority) think that the recreational use of cannabis should be legal**. That's compared to just 32% (a definite minority) of Illinois voters who think that the prohibition of cannabis should be maintained. 

This is yet another example of how governments enforce illogical rules in complete defiance of what the constituents of that government actually want. **We don't elect people to babysit us or put us in detention**. If that's what elected officials have to offer us, **maybe we should stop electing them.**
