**People who lived thousands of years ago created some amazing buildings. These buildings are so extensive that scientists have sought for centuries answers to who, why, and most importantly, how they were built. 
We present a list of locations, surrounded by ancient charm and nuance of mystery.**

**Stonehenge, England**

According to legend Stonehenge was built by the magician Merlin. But how people transported these incredibly heavy stones from the quarry, which is located hundreds of miles from there? The purpose of the construction is not quite clear.

**Baalbek, Lebanon**

The temple in this ancient style is the jewel of the ruins of the once thriving city. The Romans had no technology that could install these stone blocks that weigh up to 1,000 tons. Just to compare: the Athenian Parthenon is half the size of Lebanon giant and the largest block of the Great Pyramid weighs "only" 90 tons.

**Newgrange, Ireland**

Despite the fact that the road builders came across a monument in the XVII century, people began to explore this mysterious landmark only three centuries later. Excavations show that it's barrow: perfectly round with an impressive diameter and older than the Egyptian pyramids. In the middle, archaeologists discovered tomb. If you happen to visit Newgrange during the solstice, you can see a real astronomical phenomenon - a ray of light gradually fills the room. Irish superstitions say that this place is the entrance to the country of elves and fairies.

**Dolmens of the North Caucasus, Russia**

Here on the mountain slopes remain small houses built of flat stones. There are holes on the facades that can be closed off with plugs. The surprising fact is that even the tip of the blade can not fit between them. The age of those structures reaches 5000 years. Some dolmeni by Volkonsky, are known for their medicinal properties.

**Tikal, Guatemala**

One of the biggest settlements of the Maya is hidden in the green jungle. There are ponds, field to play ball and palaces. But special attention to the pyramids and the formation of the squares of the city. They have built a model corresponding to the periods of its development. There are many theories about their functions: religious buildings, research centers, cemeteries or all of the above. The etymology of the name "Tikal" is also unclear. But there is a clear "Alias" - City of votes. Even whispers there echoes hollowly. 

**Petra, Jordan**

The monument is 900 meters above sea level, hidden in the rocks. Masters had to possess remarkable patience, turning rocks into a masterpiece of Petra. At the end of the canyon Sik fantastic views facade with columns and porticoes. It is unclear how they worked carvers. After all, it's impossible to create such work without scaffolding, but they did not know about it yet.

**Terracotta Army, China**

Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum holds over 8,000 statues of Chinese warriors and horses. They were buried together with the governor, regardless of tradition. This handmade army of 200 BC natural growth with the smallest details, except that no two identical faces. During the excavations (1970), scientists had to act very carefully. One of those reasons is for security purposes, as one legend says that rivers of mercury accompanied the emperor in his afterlife.

The view is stunning especially in the rainy season: wide ditch filled with water, making Angkor Wat like an island in the middle of the vast ocean.

He and a group of warriors attempt to conquer the African Eldorado. Imagine how surprised they were when they see a poor town of mud buildings. Now, people who love adventures are attracted by the unique architecture of mosques. 

**Statues of Easter Island, Chile**

A small part of the earth above the waters of the Pacific Ocean is covered with gigantic moai. There is evidence that they were moved from one place to another. There ritual stands that are heavier than themselves idols. Unfortunately, people whose descendants could shed light on how they were moved these huge statues died a long time ago. There is only one way to solve the mysteries of the island - to look directly at the silent statues. Experiments confirmed that all manipulations of them were possible, but we still do not know how.
