# Why did Peter started sinking?

<hr>

Some said he started working by senses and not in the spirit, some said he despised the grace that was carrying him. Be that as it may, those answers may be right to a greater extent but then Jesus said something to Peter after reaching out to save him. Please read the passage with us.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. 

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. 

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. 

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus said to Peter “ O thou of little faith...”.

I want to remind us something about **faith**, it takes ***the faith of Christ Jesus** alone to overcome and to be saved, not our own faith! The only thing that our faith is meant to do is to lock in into the faith of Jesus Christ at all time, remember, in many occasions Jesus would say “ o ye of little faith” at some other time he would say “I’ve not seen such a great faith”, what does that tell us? We can’t do anything regarding salvation, righteousness, etc by our own faith, our faith is alone too small to uphold us considering the dark place where we’re coming from. We are earthly!

Jesus is not earthly but we’re, yet so soon we brag about ourselves thinking that we’re anything, hello friends, it’s not our right neither is it a privilege that we’re saved less any should boast, it’s all through the mercy and grace of our God. The moment we forget where we’re coming from; that nothing good comes from any man, that forgetfulness marks our falling.

Peter thought it was his right to walk on water, oh so quick he forgot such providence and grace from Jesus that was carrying him and start minding the boisterous wind as if he was walking on the sea by his own strength, oh! Maybe Jesus who gave his word “come” is not able to give Peter victory over winds? 

Bottom line is this; our faith can only amount to something when we lock-in to it’s target which is the FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.
