I finally finished watching Punisher Season 1 on Netflix. It took a long time, but I think that has more to do with lifestyle changes than anything else. I've been trying to get more sleep, which means less time for watching TV. Overall I thought it was pretty engaging. I really like the guy that plays the Punisher, and I really liked the way they reintroduced the character following his involvement in Daredevil Season 2. Having him try to lay low and just blend into the background of society was a good idea and seemed pretty realistic. But of course, there wouldn't be much of a series if he just stayed working construction. So naturally he quickly finds his way back to normal, which for him is brutal vigilantism. It's a very violent series, which certainly fits with the tone of the comics, but some of it was a little hard to watch.

I thought the overall arc of the storyline was well paced, with a few exceptions. The time spent on the Lewis storyline felt like filler, and never really tied back in to the main story. Same thing with Micro's kid being rebellious. I understand why that would happen, but it was all kind of just hinted at, and not really ever fully explored.

Speaking of Micro, he was way different than what I'm used to in the comics. The series made him quite a bit more sympathetic than I ever felt about him in the comics. The internal struggle with him watching Frank step into a bit of a fatherly role for his family and in some ways supplant him was interesting. He's kind of stuck because he knows he has to stay hidden for their own safety, and he's glad that Frank is there to help protect them, but he's also pretty jealous, because it should be him in that role. This was all very well acted, IMO, both by him and by his wife.

I also really liked Billy Russo. He was well more nuanced than Rawlins, who came off as pretty one dimensional. Billy had moments where you weren't exactly sure he was all bad. You maybe even started to wonder if he could be trusted, but that got less and less as the series went on. But I don't think that's attributed to character development as much as it is good acting and competent story progression. Billy is as Billy always was. We just didn't fully see him in the beginning. And little by little more was revealed. I have a feeling that all of this will lead nicely into what Billy becomes in the future, if they handle it well in Season 2.

The series definitely made me interested in watching further Marvel Netflix series. My faith was a bit shaken by Iron Fist, but after Punisher Season 1, I'm back in the flock.
