And I imagine roof up keep takes some special consideration. But they are quaint:)

They are lovely looking.....is that "cottage" for more than one family?   It looks like a duplex or the like.  What about the moss growing on the roof?  We are always told to keep out every kind of moisture from our houses.  

I love the romance of these however and I can see how photos would be on chocolate or cookie tins.

I always romanticized about the thatched roofed houses. Seems so fairy-tale-ish and who doesn't love a little whimsey?

Seems terribly impractical, but, I think I could live with that. They certainly are fine examples! Thanks for sharing them with us!

Pretty photographs @molometer and I couldn't agree more with this statement:

The other thing I don't like about them is they are usually pretty dingy with tiny windows and very little light. I find that quite depressing.

The one in your top photograph has relatively large windows compare to many.

I’ve always loved the look of thatched roof houses. But, as you say, they seem impractical. Wouldn’t it be lovely if someone found a way to get that look, but make it practical?

They are also seen on tea boxes over here.

How incredible I thought that they were really just part of a fairy tale, that there were no longer any copies of them but I was wrong. Excellent post we never stop learning and culturizarnos a little more every day, the thermal comfort of the place must be sublime by the cover.
