There are only three species of Currawongs (Genus <I>Streppa</I>) and all are found in Australia. Despite their superficial similarities, they are not considered to be related to crows and ravens (Family Corvidae).

<H2>Grey Currawong (<I>Strepera versicolor </I>)</H2>
The Grey Currawong is found right across the southern parts of Australia. On the Australian mainland, the different subspecies of the Grey Currawong  come in various shades of grey.  However, despite it's common name, the Tasmanian subspecies, <I>S. versicolor arguta</I>, is actually black. Therefore, it is sometimes referred to by  the alternative name of the Clincking Currawang.  I photographed the clicking Currawongs in the first two photos at the Narawntapu National park here in Tasmania.

<H2>Black Currawong (<I>Strepera fuliginosa</I>)</H2>
The Black Currawong is only found in Tasmania and the Bass Strait Islands.. Here's a shot of one in the snow up at Cradle mountain.

<H2>Pied Currawong (<I>Strepera graculina</I>)</H2>
The other Currawong species is the Pied Currawong.  This one is found right down the east side of Australia with the exception of Tasmania. I took the following shot some years ago up in New South Wales.
