**CD Projekt Red is a studio that likes to take its time for its projects. In the past they also showed that they always rewarded that waiting with strong games. While the development of this card game continues, the Polish studio has shown more of its single-player campaign called Thronebreaker.**

Thronebreaker plays before the events in the Witcher games, for the first time with a queen in the lead. Meve is in fact in charge of the kingdoms of Lyria and Rivia, which end up in all kinds of dangerous conflicts. Many familiar elements from Witcher games return in Thronebreaker, for example the dialogue trees that produce certain choices. These choices naturally also influence the course of the story. This can apply to clear big decisions, or even the smallest nuance in the dialogue you choose.

## Unlocking unique cards
This campaign is not called Gwent: Thronebreaker for nothing, so here and there a card will have to be put. That gameplay must be known for every player who is even somewhat familiar with the Witcher universe. Through various maps representing units, environments or spells, you must have gained more points at the end of a round than your opponent. You can do this by bluffing, tactical surrender and choosing the right cards at the start. As a bonus, you can also unlock twenty unique cards using Thronebreaker that can also be used in the multiplayer.

It is not yet clear how open this world will be, but at least we know that you can walk around and collect loot.

## Fresh dialogue trees
Sidequests can also provide more raw materials. These raw materials consist mainly of money, cards and units. What the cards are for speaks for itself. The money and the units can be used in the camp, a new feature in Thronebreaker. You can set up camp anywhere in the world, where Meve stays with her army units and advisers.

This camp involves various types of gameplay, such as management gameplay. Here, for example, you can manage and adjust various decks. See here especially how you can use your newly found maps and build new strategies. Building up parts in your camp can be done with collected money. For example, we saw how the barracks of the army units were expanded, which provides improved gameplay. You can also speak to advisers and various other characters. This ensures fresh dialogue trees and possibly even the unlocking of new side quests.

## Army units
You can also make your own maps, this is where the assembled army units come to see. In the preview, for example, Meve came across a farming village. Eventually she gets the choice to take all the men in the village against their will in the army, after which the raw material army units rose. This gave the player the chance to make a new unit in the form of a card. This was clearly a small example in which moral choices could lead to more or fewer raw materials.

My impression of Gwent: Thronebreaker was not flawless, however. The graphics seem somewhat on the simple side, at least for what we are used to from CD Projekt Red. In addition, the characters had lipsync with the dialogue, but it did not seem to be synchronized at all. It was perhaps a small detail, but with a game that has (sometimes even too many) dialogues it can quickly cause irritation.

## Curious
Apart from that, I am absolutely curious about the rest of Gwent. It is typical for CD Projekt Red to want to get more out of a project that could have been so successful on paper. The game will be release sometime this year.
