At last, the rest of the group enters the picture. Like some gamers playing XCOM I would sometimes name new rookies with names of friends or other people I know, and often having the strangest choice in combat classes being given when they were promoted from Rookie. And like the comic, one of said rookies with the name of a friend who is practically blind without glasses got tapped for the Sniper class. Go figure. 🤓

Ha ha... I try to avoid naming my grunts! It's just too traumatic when they die... Or more to the point, it's too traumatic when the rest of the squad dies because of an emotional attachment to a grunt with the name of your wife leads you to try and save them instead of sacrificing them!

I will regularly assign my grunts names from my group of friends, but I don't use names from my family. Like you infer it's just a bit too much when associated with a family member. Well that, and no one in my family is either old enough or is in any physical shape to even imagine them as a soldier... 😏
