Silene gallica 🌸 The Common Catchfly

The slopes of the Carmel were covered with flowers that, due to their small size, were the perfect subject for my macro photography 😁

*Silene gallica* is a species of flowering plant in the pink family known by several common names, including *common catchfly*, *small-flowered catchfly*, and *windmill pink*.

It is native to Eurasia and North Africa, but it can be found throughout much of the temperate world as a common roadside weed.

It is an annual herb growing up to 40 or 45 centimeters tall.

It is cultivated for its juice to treat ophthalmia.

*Ophthalmia* (also called *ophthalmitis*) is **inflammation of the eye.**

It is a medical sign which may be indicative of various conditions, including *sympathetic ophthalmia* - inflammation of both eyes following trauma to one eye.
